OMG that is one hell of a wound, as others have said you could try putting a thin cotton coat on her instead of a collar for a while, we did when Jesse had his leg amputated.

She has 2 tablets and as you can imagine puts up a struggle.

As most whippets she can detect a tablet from 100 yards, regardless of how you try to disguise it!

1 is an anti biotic and the other a pain killer

We're lucky, my wife has the knack of slipping them down to the back of our dog's tongue with one finger. Where they get swallowed down.

Is Violet sleeping ok?

Poor Violet (w00t) (w00t) that looks a horrendous wound. I hope she's feeling much better soon.

About the tablets - could you "hide" them in a lump of cheese or slice of ham or something? I've had to resort to that over the years - some of my dogs would take tablets as though you were offering them a treat - but some of them reacted as though I was trying to poison them :wacko:

Oh, poor Violet - that really was an awful injury - does look like a very neat job that the vet's done though. Sending her lots of gentle hugs and wishes for a very speedy recovery :huggles:

just a thought about the tables too - could they be ground up and mixed into a wee bit of cream or soft cheese or would that not work. (Blue is ok with small tables if they're wrapped in a bit of ham but I'm sure would detect anything bigger and spit it out)

there must be a sharp branch or broken twig or a bush with nasty thorns, just got rid of a horrible bush with inch long thorns from our garden, hope you find what did it.

Put an old T shirt of the kids on her and she'll probably bother the stitshes less. Have they got to be removed ?

Hope she's not in too much pain, you never know the minute do you

we've tried wrapping the tablet in a piece of meat and things,but she just doesn't seem interested in anything at the moment - will have to stick to putting it in.

We've got a t-shirt on her now and she is much happier. She sleeps ok, that's all she does at the moment, she's not moving much from the lounge. She's been having lots of cuddles on the sofa as well!

Oh my God Andy that looks awful. Poor Violet I wonder what she did??? Someone on here not so long ago posted a picture of a similar injury which their dog did but running through the gap in a wrought iron gate a bit too quickly. Can't remember if you had a gate or not though. I hope you manage to find out what it was.

I hope she gets better soon. When Molly got her barbed wire cut (a paltry 4 stitches in comparison), she started to bother the stitches but we managed to get her to stop so we didn't have to put a lampshade on her. I hope you can manage to get Violet to leave them alone. We did put a coat on her too but she still managed to lift it up and get to the stitches. We just watched her like a hawk and distracted her whenever she tried to lick it and gave her treats and lots of bones to take her mind off things :thumbsup:

We put her tablets in cooked chicken which seemed to fool her :lol:

We still have no idea what caused the injury, a few ifs and maybe's but nothing that you would think could cause this.

She is wearing a 4-5yr old t shirt, they fit just nice! And she likes it as it keeps her warm.

Back to the vets tonight for a checkup so will see if we can increase that £660 bill (w00t)

Even our old vets included the follow up appointment in with the original price and they were right rip off merchants :lol: hopefully you won't need to pay more!

I'm glad you've got a tshirt to fit her and she's happy with it. Is Tipsy being a good girl and not bothering her mum?

Do you still have your chickens? I know you'll have checked already but have you looked out for loose chicken wire?

Just been to the vets for a check up, Violet has a slight temperature so she has some more antibiotics, and a £50 bill to add the the £660, we go back in a week to have the stitches taken out.
