We did really well yesterday evening, he was positively striding out, tail up and wagging!! The solution seemed to be some pieces of cheese in my pocket. Had tried normal dog treats before but not that fussed about them but cheese was a different matter!!! Gave him a piece before we went then just a small piece every now and again on the walk, with lots of praise and he seemed to really enjoy himself. Also had his little green fleece on to keep him cosy! Went up the road , round the swings on the park and back which took about 15 mins total but a lot of that was just sniffing and standing watching things. He spends ages sniffing, must be some good smells on the park! He is really funy when striding out, looks like a little soldier marching his legs go so high, daddy has nicknamed him sargent kendall. :D He is so settled now - he asks to go out for the toilet and last night went in his bed, telling us it was time to go to bed. Not a peep till 7am when he wanted the toilet. It must be great being a puppy and being so happy and full of life at 7am!! He is a little star - we love him to bits.

So glad you took the tit bit route! I have never known it fail, well done.LOL

Well done Nicky - I think you are doing just fine.

I lure my pups with treats to walk alongside me, and I teach loose lead walking and heelwork the same way, so I personally think you are off to a great start using this method already. You lure them into the right position alongside you, and reward with nibbles of treat as you go. As they get the hang of where you want them to be, you can hold the treat against your leg and reward less often, working up to having the treat in your pocket and rewarding as and when. It doesnt take long for it all to click where you want them to be to get the reward. As they get a bit older as pups, I then mix between just a verbal praise or treat, they work at it, because its like playing a fruit machine, repeating the behaviour hoping for the payout!

Well done Nicky, I took Lucy out today, just the the school gates and she was not interested in walking at all, much preferred to be carried, as befits a lady :*

Kendall sounds like he is doing exceptionally well ;)

Aww, bless her. I have to say the cheese in the pocket trick does do wonders for heelwork, he walks fab!! He can now alo do sit very well, on the first command when he feels like it!! Just working on our recall and watch command, which he is not doing too bad when nothing better going on :D

He has been to work with me a few times now. Saturday morning he was in a lazy mood and the vets wife didn't realise he was there till midday as he was fast asleep in his bed. He has bee really good there but sometimes whines a bit if mummy is holding someone else - cats are OK but some dogs he gets a bit jealous. Then he is really funny because he cries whenever a dog goes home that he has took a fancy too - yesterday was a westie - he was disappointed as they had only just met. He went to see the horses for the first time last night, his face was a picture, a mix of sheer amazement on his face and a little waggy tail. He quiteliked them till one snorted and that was a bit scary

He went to his second dog training class on Sunday. The first week he was dead quiet, this week he burst through the doors like "Hi everyone I'm here", and then his main aim was trying to distract the dogs who were being too good by pouncing at them. The instructor loves him as her mum used to have whippet, she was even taking his photo, so he can get away with anything and still get treats!!
