We took Brooke to the vet yesterday to have her ears treated for an infection. About an hour later I walked her on a local field which a lot of dog walkers use. I caught her eating vomit and in all fairness to her she stopped when I told her to. All seemed fine until about an hour later when she seemed disoriented-not walking straight, eyes peering and just totally out of character. We talked about it and thought that there could be a temporary imbalance due to her ear treatment. I phoned the vet who agreed with my thoughts. What I didn't mention was the vomit. We were going to let her sleep and hopefully be better for it. The wife said she looked drugged up. I was straight back on the phone to the vet. They asked us to get her to them asap. We did so and they admitted that she could die. She stayed overnight on a drip. They told us that they nearly lost her during the afternoon.
Come 9pm we were informed that she was responding and 'out of the woods' She's back home now as if nothing had happened!
The main message is that the vomit almost certainly deposited by a drug user.
Keep an eye on your dog as much as possible when you are out.

OMG, I'm so pleased she pulled through and is OK now - it could have been so much worse. Thanks for sharing - it's something I'd never considered before.

The vet told us that if we had not acted when we did, we would almost certainly lost her. They are putting a warning out on Facebook. It has been an emotional period of time. We shed tears of sorrow in the afternoon and joy in the evening.

You have my sympathies. What a horrible experience. Corroborates the need for constant vigilance - irrespective of breed our dogs will hoover up anything. They are to discretion what Donald Trump is to modesty. Glad your mite is fighting fit.

Awful! - thankfully you dog will be OK. I also have a 'canine dustbin' who eats anything and everything.I despair of him. Good luck with yours - as others have said it's almost impossible to stop them.

What a horrible experience to have to go through. So glad she is ok. Hope you are feeling ok too, that must have been an awlful shock.

Brooke is home and happy. We think that she is back to her old self apart from feeling hungry and asking for her food far earlier than normal. The vet tells me that someone on cannabis would be munching food and agrees with me that Brooke is showing those characteristics. I am awaiting a phone call from them to find out if her appetite will return to normal with the passing of time.

Hahaha your dog has got the munchies hehe, here’s a story, when I was young , ok long time ok, I tried a few smokes with added stuff only once I will say ,, and geez did I eat wow I lost two days of work , but remember I eat everything I could get my hands on,
Smoking at work and went out at night for a darts match and can’t remember a thing from 8pm and apparently got my pal by the throut,, never again hehe, hope your dog dosnt beat up the block , glad your dog is safe and sound.

By the way. I cannot see any amusement in the subject. The dog was on deaths doorstep due to eating some irresponsible drug using idiots vomit.

'A friend' from my misspent use claims they don't remember the munchies persisting into the next day. Though cannabis now is very much stronger than it was back then, and it's possible there were some added extras (unless the vet has ruled that out).

Actually, a google also suggests that the munchies only last a few hours. This is in people of course, a dog's metabolism will be different.

Have you heard back from the vet on this point? Also, I'm sure you've considered this, but have you taken into account the clock change?
