Yesterday Dexter went for his heart test which he passed withe flying colours. The cost of the test done by Paddy Mannion was £352. 50 plus £105. 75 consultation so altogether £453. 41 so it is not cheap. On Tuesday he goes for his hearing test and are waiting appointment for his eyes, so will let you know the cost of these.

Well done Courthill - good example - but very expensive.
 
did they do an ECG? (they call it an EKG in the usa). If so that is pretty damned expensive. It takes me 5 minutes to do one of those at work but that is on humans.

The test took forty five minutes and the consultation thirty Mins
 
What exactly did they do Patsy ?

As we do ECGs` at work ,by putting clips on their bodies in certain places and sending the messages over the phone ( like they do in ambulances in emergencies ) this is for anilmals who are thought to have heart problems .

on lighter note, :clown: :clown: I would have thought russling a sweetiebag would have been good enough to test a whippets hearing :lol:

If you "break wind" behind a whippet, you can test both hearing & sence of smell at same time. :teehee:
 
Now I know who Dexter is, having looked at your web site, how come you didn't get Russell tested as well, he is, after all a full brother to Dexter?

Would it be worth doing litter brothers? as surely their`genes` etc would be the same , yeh I know some dogs that are hip scored etc and that they can all be different in a litter , But maybe hearts etc dont have such a great diversity .

I obviosly havent a clue what Im talking about :wacko: :oops: :lol: . But I think 1 dog at a time IMO :cheers:

As far as I know (and thinking back to Natalia's previous post on heart problems), genetically speaking litter brothers will be similar but sufficiently different that one could have a problem and another not ... but as you say you'd have to be a millionaire to test a whole litter ... goodness knows how anyone would decide who to test and who not.

Jax don't be silly I can not afford but Roger can. His brother Russell is now in Denmark, so now he is the only stud dog, if Johnny fulfills his early promise he will be done later next year.

GOOD ON YOU COURTHILL :thumbsup: at last somebody is doing something(actions speak louder than words) after all this bluster about health testing its good that somebody has taken the lead,will be interesting to see how many follow suit esp the ones who have been more vocal on the subject :- " I for one intend to get my future breeding stock tested :thumbsup:

Seems to have been pretty worthwhile to me... :thumbsup:

Anything which can safeguard our breed and prevent inherited problems from becoming widespread is great news in my book! 8)
