Just had confirmation from new track owner Jason Seddon that we're welcome to come to Westhoughton for races and trials.

Racing starts this Saturday 17th September from 2.30-4.30pm.

The cafe will be open from 2pm- 5pm and so we don't over run, it would probably be best to meet in the cafe early to book in so we run smoothly.

Pre entries will help immensly and can be done through contacting myself on 07852 328020 I would also suggest newcomers to the track ring beforehand so they can get an idea of what goes on.

Address:

Westhoughton Greyhound Stadium

Wigan Road

Westhoughton

Nr Bolton

BL5 2DH

The club has a membership scheme with incentives. Membership is £5 for the year.

Members £5 entry per dog - maximum charge of £15 for anyone with more than 3 dogs

Non-members £5 per trial.

Hi Roger, yes lurchers are also welcome.

Also can everyone please note, dogs are not allowed in the cafe thanks.

Hope to see plenty there for trialing, i know you will all be pleasantly surprised at how good the track is, the surface is second to none and very safe!

It will be interesting to see what times are done, track record for the greyhounds has been knocked down to 14.05 since the changes, i'm sure some of the good scratch dogs could get close.

Any good scratch dogs in mind Vicky ? (w00t)

Karen and myself had a very enjoyable run to Westhoughton today the weather when we set off was wicked there was a pile up on the M6 --- it was closed so we went the old road through Preston --

Got there and the sun shone all aftermoon---lovely days racing track brilliant --looking forward to next week

Ill 2nd that Steve great day & track , chuffed with my young un Joe (tinkerman - Florence )took to bends no problems looks like I was right not to rush him !! Can't wait for next week

Despite the on/off showers (until Mr Boyd arrived!) we had a great attendance of dogs for club running.

Thanks to all those who helped out and to everyone who kept the flow of dogs going.

The track, despite some heavy downpours yesterday and this morning, was in fine condition.

First off was some handslips, some experienced dogs having their first stretch out on the bends and youngsters like Joe and Lotti taking it all in their stride.

Then we had some trials from the traps. Sorry we couldn't get times for the first lot of trials and huge thanks to Linda for getting them for the owners 2nd time round.

well done to Joe, we have also started his sister on the bends at Easington, she seems to enjoy it more than the straights

Would it be an idea that when you have booked in and paid to be given a number, when that number is called out its your turn for a run, just seems sometimes no one knows what is going on JUST AN IDEA

On a more serious note would it be possible to make pre entry a condition if people wanted to race -

as opposed to just turning up for trials i was thinking just two dog races if times are put on here each week then any one could handicap them -

to my mind there only becomes a problem when someone tries to slow the dog for trials but as there is nothing to gain this should not be a problem --

I think people seeing whippets running for the first time like to see a race it creates more interest -

plus the lure would only go round the track half as many times--with two dogs at a time-the times would be truer as the dogs would be racing opposed to running-

just a thought ? what do others think?

Fine with me to give out a raffle ticket number upon entry. What I would suggest is that those with a few dogs might be best taking alternate tickets e.g. if me & Tony run 5 dogs then everyone would be kept waiting as we went back and forth to the carpark.

Re: Handicap racing:

Both Tony, Vicky & Mark have organised handicap racing with pre entry, the outcome always the same. Folk pull out, decide they just want a trial or whine about the handicap.

As far as I'm concerned (and it certainly isn't me running the show) if people want handicap racing they can organise it amongst themselves then they can at least decide between them what they consider to be fair. The pedigree racers already do this and are quite happy doing their own thing. Maybe as an incentive for folk working together and using their initiative, those pre arranged races could be given priority as the first dogs run? It's up to everyone to decide what suits.

Linda has kindly offered to come up and do some timing this week even though she isn't running any dogs. Could someone else also offer to do some timing so were not at a loss if Linda has commitments elsewhere?

I'll contact Jason this week about having all the traps available and hooked up for racing.
