For the first time we have been to a lure coursing meeting today, run by Mark Roberts of Parkstone Whippets. What a fantastic afternoons sport we had and all done in a very very friendly atmosphere.
We took our 3 and 2½ year old Whippets, BJ and Asharna, and our 2 Italian Greyhounds, Jack and Charlie.
BJ looked at the lure and thought if you think I'm chasing that, you can think again and was only interested in playing! Asharna did ok but if I'm honest I'm not too sure whether it was the lure she was chasing or her running partner who was miles in front of her, but she had a great time.
The Italians then had a go, Jack was ok until he got near the hedgebottom and that was definitely more like a place he would find a rabbit! But Charlie, bless him has found his niche. There was bound to be one for him somewhere. He had 3 runs and completed each time with not a hint of breathlessness. He was most displeased when we wouldn't let him have a fourth go.
Even the rain held off during the fun, although it had rained heavily most of the morning. We all got very muddy indeed, especially the slip lady who was covered back and front having landed in the mud on her bottom more than once. But it didn't matter at all we had such a good time.
There were some very lovely, fast dogs and it was a pleasure to watch them especially near the end when 3 or four would run together.
All in all a great day, even the traffic jams on the way home didn't diminish our enjoyment of the day.
As I write this for those of you who read this that were there, Charlie is still wide awake and bringing his ball so he can chase it round the room!
Once again thanks for giving us such a great day out. I'm sure it won't be our last time.
