Hi, sadly we lost this little diamond today of 17 years old, she was originally a rescue so I don't know what breeds of dog she has in her, the most obvious is Border Collie, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Very hard to say, but what a sweetie. I am so sorry for your loss. Seeing the pictures of her out and about, she has had some lovely adventures and must have been a real character .

Thank You, she was an absolute darling. I've had plenty of dogs and came across so many, but she was so special. She truly had a heart of gold - so gentle... Id never look to replace her, but would love another dog of similar breed combination.

Thanks

I'm so sorry you've had to say goodbye to your special girl. I can't see any particular other breeds in her so wouldn't like to hazard a guess, but she's 100% gorgeous.

Thank you, please feel free to make guessed to help my research. Thank you

I hope I'm not going to upset you, but even if you find one that is similar to her in breeding, I'm sure you will know that it could be a very different dog in temperament. But I hope you can find one that fills up some of the space she has left in your life.

If pushed, I'd probably go for collie x labrador. Her colouring looks like pics I've seen of Welsh sheepdogs too, which have broader muzzles than bordier collies.

I wondered if she had been a sprollie, ie., collie/spaniel mix. The ones I’ve met, maybe I’ve been lucky, have had very sunny nature’s and looked like short-legged collies.

it is so sad losing a dog, a canine member of the family. Best wishes. x

Judy! Thank You, a welsh collie looks very similar to her! Maybe crossed with something else too. Thank you so much. Obviously her personality is unique, but I genuinely just loved her appearance.

What about a DNA test home kit, it can also look at genetic health disorders either carried or possible to occure and find a slither of info about the parents and ascendants....maybe?
I'm not sure on their accuracy and results depend on the wealth of the companies database.

Hi thanks I did consider this. But she passed away over 24hours ago now, and Im unsure saliva carries accurate DNA considering the time it will take for the test kit to arrive.

I think a Welsh collie is certainly 80% of her. Unsure what else though

Thanks everyone so far

Hmmm does any DNA test take fur samples?
Im sorry for your loss. :emoji_blue_heart:

It’s funny how we’re all different. I couldn’t contemplate having a similar looking dog to the “once in a lifetime” dog I lost. <3 Perhaps another sighthound, as they come in all different colours, shapes, sizes and coats, but definitely not another little brindle whirrier. :(

You've got the wrong end of the stick
I want a dog with similar appearance and build but different colours. Maybe even a male next time. Won't be for many months or a year.

it is good when you find a breed or mix you like, isn’t it. She looked a lovely, good natured soul. I’ve got a real soft spot for sighthounds. <3. Mind you, I’m not a rabbit! ;)

Yeah I love sight hounds too. We also have a Russian wolf hound a borzoi. What a big lad he is!!

I love the look of the borzoi. So elegant and regal. I can't imagine ever owning one but I can admire from a distance.

Interestingly, the sighthound in my avatar, who looks like a big collie, is quite similar to the breed that owners over here are trying to get recognised, as you may know, ie., the silken windhound. I think they are recognised in other countries. They are a cross between Borzoi and long haired whippet (which is suspected to have some collie in it, you don’t get them over here). As my boy came out a pound in Ireland, 13 years ago, we think he is probably a black and white Borzoi/smooth whippet cross. He did loads of agility, and being surrounded by collies the whole time, it was easy to see he doesn’t have ANY collie traits. Borzois are gorgeous, though I’ve heard they can be quite complex, so not a novice dog?

I have an acquaintance in the US who has a friend that has a silken wind hound and they look after each others dogs when one of them is on holiday etc. She says it's a lovely dog.

Yeah I see the similarities. Very interesting! Borzois are extremely difficult dogs... We got him at around 7 months old from a breeder who had been in hospital so didn't part them from the mother until she was out and able. So he missed a lot of basic puppy skills and was very fearful of everything. As he aged this fear snowballed into a fear based upfront aggression to dogs and strangers. We are working on him.. but in the house and with family he is so gentle and sensitive. On a plus side they never bark unless being aggressive. So yeah to answer your question they've very tricky dogs to handle behaviour wise. Thabkfully we own a decent sized private land for him to safely roam and run around. He will really miss my old girl, she taught him all he knows
