hi x

i am a little worried about Bean.

it is 4 weeks since her season ended and on Friday she had some clear/cream non smelly vaginal discharge but seemed o.k in herself.

on Saturday night / Sunday morning she had severe upset stomach both ends but we had run out of her usual food and had given her something different all day, so i put it down to that.

Sunday we kept her on chicken and she seemed hungry but not 100% back to her normal self.

today she is quiet and i have just noticed some more discharge after she had a pee.

she has not been drinking more than usual, seems hungry but just quiet.

her gums are pale and her nose is not as wet as the others, but she still has the energy to bark and chase dogs that dare pass our garden :D

i have probably panicked but i have made her a vets appointment at 5.20pm....

it is the same vet i took talulla to only a few months ago after her season when she had discharge and was a little quiet - the vet is LOVELY but made me feel like a bit of a wally (nothing new there then!)

she said that it was highly unlikely to be a pyo in such a young dog and that she would be able to feel if the womb was filling with pus because of the shape of a whippet.

can someone please advise me as to what i should ask the vet tonight as i know Bean is not hersef and i am scared stiff that it could be a pyo that will go unnoticed and then it will be too late :(

what tests can they do to determine if it is / isn't a pyo???

help

sorry for the long post but i am more than a little concerned about my wee girl :(

pyo is something a good vet will automatically look for there are 2 types one is open where you get the discharge usually discoloured the other more serious one is closed pyo where the infection is internal with either she would also have a higher than normal temperature just tell the vet what you know isn't right with your dog its more than likely just an upset tummy make sure she gets plenty of fluids more important than food

never feel you are a wally you are a responsible dog owner better safe than sorry hope all goes well :luck: :luck:

Couldn't agree more :) She's your dog and you know her best and it IS better to be safe than sorry. Perhaps just keep an eye on her for the next few days and see if she picks up.

I've never had experience of a pyo in a bitch so don't know how quickly it could get really bad? Sure somebody on here will know more and put your mind at ease :huggles:

Hope all went well at the vets Tracy and it was nothing serious :huggles: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Good luck at the vets, hope you had good news.

It always pays to be on the safe side

yet again in a panic for nothing :D

which i am sooooo happy about - normal temperature, no swelling, no signs of anything at all :- "

since the vets she has been on a forest walk and frolicked with the others, come home and eaten her supper, and is now under her duvet near the woodburner

i am just to watch her for any more sickness etc and keep an eye on any increase or change in the discharge.

tonight we are a little poorer in the pocket but so much happier x

thank you all for your concern and good wishes :))

better safe than sorry. when you suspect something as deadly as pyro its always better to get it checked out and at least its put your mind at rest as well :)

So pleased it's not pyo! :huggles: :huggles: Maybe the heat isn't suiting her? Is it hot up your way?

i did think about heat stroke as she is a great sunbather - but we used to live in Kent where it was so much warmer and she never had any problems there.

she seems fine this morning - still not quite her normal mad self but not as glum looking as she has been.

She's picked up a minor infection then by the sound of it. So pleased she's shaking it off now. :huggles:
