My Cornstalk bred whippet Lilly is tiny. They do vary

If you live in Glasgow, I suggest that you contact Billy at Cornstalk (Lanarkshire I think) and explain what you are looking for and when.

He is really helpful and if you are not in a hurry, he may put your name on a list for a dog that has been returned to him due to unforseen circumstances. Very rarely, I believe he has a dog / bitch for sale that he has kept on with a view to showing. The other scottish based breeders with lovey whippets are Crosscrop (Lockerbie). Leigh is really helpful and may be able to help. There are quite a few breeders in Stirling and Falkirk that advertise on ePupz quite a lot but they do seem to have a lot of pups of all ages for sale............

Have you considered applying to Scruples whippet rescue. If you are not in a hurry and are able to rehome a pair of whippets, I am sure something will turn up. Do not discount ePupz if you are looking for a pair of slightly older whippets. There are sometimes whippets advertised there where the owners circumstances have changed and the advertisment is genuine. 2 of my preloved whippets are from ePupz.

Thank you for your reply. My friend got her whippets from Billy so was definitely going to call him. Once we have decided for sure that we are in a position to home a whippet or two! It would be ideal if there were two whippets, used to each others company, both got on with kids etc! Would be a great success!!

I'll keep my eye on epupz as well :)

Thank you. That's very helpful.
I just didn't know if people were going to feel pestered and / or think we were time wasting if we didn't choose there and then. So thank you for your advice.

Because we're hoping for a whippet (or two!) nearer 6months - 2 years, I think it's harder to speak to owners/breeders. I do know that there is a breeder near us (where my friend bought from) who apparently has some older pups/adults ready to go to new homes. So might be nice to see them and hopefully hope one of them....

We are moving house in the new year so don't want to get a dog until we do move so they don't get uprooted/confused when we do move.

Im sorry but thats not the sort of place id be wanting to buy from or would recommend . Why have they got `older pups` Couldnt they sell what they bred ? How many do they breed and who sells adults < unless they are old x breeding stock , sound more like a puppy farm to me , but if you are wanting a a whippet 6 months to 2 years they are the place to get one from ,Youd probably be better with a rescue . mind you if it is puppy farm thats what you would be doing any how . JMO obviously

Also not mentioned , is price.
I think they have 'older pups and adults' due to the new owners returning through no fault if the whippets. Change in circumstances etc. Which I'm advised is actually a responsible breeder?

I'm also not 100% on whether they rescue adults. I was told they occasionally have a few adults and older pups, that was as much as I was told.

I know they are an excellent breeder and one that has been recommended on here and outwith.

Price isn't set at anything in particular. It depends on how many whippets we get (one or two), how they are temperament wise (needs to be good with children and other dogs), house trained or not etc. We probably have a maximum of £500 for two (roughly! Hubby might disagree hehe)

Yes you are right, a responsible breeder will take back older pups (or any adults they have bred) if owner's circumstances change. Unfortunately due to the current climate it's happening quite often as people have to take on extra hours etc with little notice or lose their jobs altogether and cannot afford to keep their dogs :(

Yes and quite often it's just another excuse to get rid of a dog once the novelty has worn off .

Other good excuses include allergies , emigrating , moving house etc etc etc

Hardly ever does anyone just tell the truth that they can't be bothered with the dog .

No doubt there are genuine people but they are few and far between :(

Well even if it's from someone telling a pack of lies then the dog is better off in a decent home than staying with people like that :(
