The Scottish SPCA has called for parents across Scotland to take more responsibility for the behaviour of their children after another sickening catalogue of violence against animals over the past year.

Launched during Scottish Animal Week, the charity’s plea is supported by shocking statistics which show that attacks have risen by almost 20 percent compared to the last two years and that even more are taking place during school holidays.

Below are examples of calls to the Scottish SPCA’s Animal Helpline over the past year. These calls are tasked to the Society’s dedicated Inspectorate, which is unique among animal welfare organisations in being a reporting agency to the Procurator Fiscal.

- The caller reports that children are putting live cats and other animals in their freezer

- When the neighbour’s children come home from school they are pushing their dog against their fence and abusing it

- A fledgling is being hit with a mop by children

- Youths are burning bumbles bees with cigarettes

- Children are holding a puppy by its lead, swinging it around and poking sticks in its face. The pup can be heard screaming in pain

- A neglected 11-week-old puppy is being put out in the streets in the morning. It is painfully thin and is being kicked by children

- A bird has been rescued from children who were using it as a football

- Children are kicking a hedgehog to death

- An injured pigeon needs to be collected. Children are throwing it in the air and letting it crash to the ground

- Youths are kicking a cat and dragging it by the back legs

- Children have set fire to a bird nest and the fire brigade is attending. The parents have deserted the nest but one fledgling remains

- A badger trapped in a snare is being beaten by children with bricks

- A swan’s nest is being destroyed by children

- Children have trapped and are torturing a sparrow

- Drunk youths are chasing roe deer

- Children are kicking the body of a pigeon after cutting its head off

- A stray cat has been rescued from children who were trying to put it down a drain

- Children are throwing stones at a dog tied to a kennel. It is not fed, its water is dirty, it has no bedding and it cannot get away

- Youths have kicked a hedgehog to death

- Youths are pushing house martin chicks off a roof

- A frog is being hung up to a post by children with a fishing line and hook

:(

easy solution................get rid of kids all of them i cant stand them i say no kids in the world id much rather a world full of beautiful whippets and any other animal come to think of it lol!!!!! kids are cruel nasty and vile where as animals (especially whippy,s) are wonderful.............rant over soz just dont have the time of day for nasty kids.

Little buggers

their parents should teach them some manners...........and how to respect animals!!

not all kids are like that though, my kids have been taught to respect all animals

thats just so awful.I can't believe that this goes on,it beggers belief..like Helen said not all kids are like that,my lot wouldn't hurt any animal and I know that for a fact.

we have a lot of kids and young members in the non-ped whippet racing all who adore their animals glad to say

but there are some B*****DS out there including adults the world would be a lot better off without

Heres another one to add to the list...

One cat found in a black bin liner, in a wheelie bin outside a pub. Luckily she had a very loud voice & someone heard her. She's in great condition & probably has a worried owner somewhere (no ID tho)

She's the lucky one... a few streets away another cat in the same situation but the sick  had set fire to this one. It was already dead when the Inspector got there. Poor poor cat.

There is a potential witness who said it was some local kids  They want stringing up

This was this week in the Manchester area. Makes me :x to the stomach

I'd say do to the kids (and their parents) whatever they are found to be doing to the animals

:'( :'( How could they ever think of doing such a thing.

Them people should be killed and tortured just like they tortured the animals and see how they feel! ignorant, nasty so-and-so's

But just to put a message across not all kids are like that. I adore animals and would never do anything to hurt them.

AS I HAVE 3 BEAUTIFULL , WELL MANNERD , ANIMAL LOVING CHILDREN I CAN NOT AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE . :b

I AGREE TO GETTING RID OF THE NASTY ONES BUT NOT ALL OF THEM .

MY 3 HAVE NOTHING BUT LOVE AND RESPECT FOR ANIMALS , THEY HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP WITH THEM AND SO KNOW WHATS RIGHT AND WRONG .

I CANT BELIEVE WHAT THIS WORLD IS COMING TOO , SOME PARENTS JUST DONT CARE WHAT THERE KIDS GET UP TO

ANIMAL CRUELTY IS VILE IN ALL AGES BUT KNOWING CHILDREN ARE DOING THIS NOW JUST MAKES YOU REALISE THAT THESE ARE THE FUTURE GENERATION

TOUGHER LAWS NEED TO BE BROUGH IN FOR MINORS AND ADULTS ALIKE , IMHO :b

i know sharons girls and they are well behaved and love animals and they wouldnt dream of harming anything. :huggles: and im sure theres many other kiddys out there who would be horrified at being lumped together with the children who perpetrated these atrocities.not all children are bad same as not all adults are bad either.what worries me is if these kids feel such lack of empathy and sympathy towards a helpless creature when theyre kids what on earth are they going to be like when they grow up and are bigger, stronger and more able to commit worse acts of violence towards other helpless individuals like say old people or little children?it doesnt say much for the way our society is going and thats what worries me. :(
