my m8 has a 3quart grayhound quart whippet and is a cracking dog on the lamp and never fails to catch..

thing is im thinking of goin for the same typ of dog but its just a tad to big for me so im thinking of goin strait cross grayhound x whippet obv to bring it down in size

i also wouldent mind a strait whippet cross but over 20inch to the shoulder wich is prooving quite hard to come by :(

so realy what do you think would be the best choice ? cos i just cant make up my mind :b

all feedback welcome & ty in advance

Where abouts are you? I'm going to take my pick of a litter of W/G puppies that will be ready in mid Jan. Both parents work and race. My last puppy from them was 25" and 52lbs and retrieved till it dropped. This litter is in the coventry/Rugby area.

you aint got a clue

for your info its 71miles away from me

get your facts rite my arse

For the right dog I travelled 183 miles, I guess it depends on how important its breeding and history is. If the right dog comes up I'd happily do twice that and probaly more. Whats an extra few hours in journey time over what your going to invest in the dog in total.

In my sums I reckon over its lifetime each of my dogs will need 1k worth of vet treatment and healthcare, 3K worth of dog food (if fed top notch diet) even on the cheap your looking at 1.5K. Then theirs sundries of probably 500quid. Set this against Two hours extra of your time say £50 extra petrol £30 a drop in the ocean really.

Well you said your In Nottingham Boom. Coventry from my house is 76 miles from the centre of Nottingham it's 50 miles.

I'd never let distance come between me and a dog i wanted, afterall whats a couple of quid petrol.

Two people travelled over 500 miles round trip to buy a pup out of a Jess's Litter.

Makes me wonder sometimes if people are for real

I have 4 dogs and have travelled from 1 1/2 hours each way to 3 hours each way to get the right ones.

On the subject. I have a 1/2 whippet 1/2 grey who is fantastic on the lamp. A very good compromise I would say.

Totally agree Martin ......One of my pups went to a home 6 hours away from us (w00t) .......and they knew if I didn't like them that they'd drive 6 hours back again puppy less :- "

I think distance is totally irrelevent to the question Boom asked all in all we have travelled over 1500 miles to collect our 4 purely because Andy drove, I'm afraid to say if I had had to travel that far we wouldnt have any of them because I'm not confident to travel such distances, but that doesnt mean I'm not worthy to have one, so if someone says a distance is too far it may just be that they are like me with driving not because they would make less of an owner or that they can't be bothered to go there
