What do you do with your dogs?

We don't like walking in the rain. Neither of us. So we have had trips to the garden for the toilet and -

- a treasure hunt for lunchtime Gentle pellets hidden around the house

- a filled Kong

- a new trick courtesy of Kikopup (leg weaving)

- a play with squeaky spacehopper

- a play with our favourite ball (it has a light inside that flashes when it rolls and it only comes out on special occasions)

Anybody else had rain all day?

All day yesterday :(

We do go out though. Just dress accordingly. Rohan waterproof trousers are brilliant. Tigan doesn't like the rain at first, but once he is wet he is fine. I use a Country Mun waterproof coat to keep the worst off him. He does love to be dried though :)

I use Scentwork for boredom days. Take a look at Talking Dogs Scentwork. I have just come back from their Scent 3 Workshop. It is run by an ex Customs Dog Handler, Pam Mackinnon. She has lots of trainers nationwide now.

The nearest scentwork from Talking Dogs is on one of the Scottish islands - I can't remember if it is Arran or Mull, so really hard for us to attend. We have a very good training group about 15 miles away and I harangued them for months to do some scentwork - then they only went and ran one last month while I was in France!

Pam is training up trainers all the time so maybe you will get some Scottish ones soon? She is from Scotland herself and likes nothing better than an excuse to run a workshop North of the Border. I think she can be booked by individuals or training clubs to run an all day course if you could get enough people interested?

Thanks for that. I wonder if I could. It is on my list of things I promised myself I'd do this year - Timber had a soft tissue injury in spring 2016 and it was then I realised I really needed to find something less physical to occupy him. He's fine now but it's good to have something like that to do as well as exercise.

We had a day of this on Monday, I managed to get Holly out for about 30 mins while it eased off slightly but she wasn't overly keen.  I got lots of accusing looks in between her trotting along with her head right down.

I'm fairly lucky as for a 9 month old GSD pup she is fairly calm in the house and when we are stuck in I tend to just do fun training games with her on and off through the day.

She's more annoyed that when it rains I shut the back door!  She's got used to it being open all the time in the nice weather so is really disgusted when its shut.  She has found her garden 'spots' where she likes to lie at different times during the day depending on where the sun is!  She's also started playing up when I go out which I thought might be separation anxiety with me but oh no, madam is just peeved that the back door has to be shut.  I don't think she cares where we go as long as she can alternate from her sofa and garden spots!

They know what they like, don't they!

We take The Jimster out in the rain, and we've had a lot of it over the last three or four days.  I actually don't mind going out in the rain, at least I know there won't be that many other people and dogs out and about ;)  Jimmy doesn't seem to mind the rain, he has a little red waterproof coat we put on him which he doesn't mind wearing (kind of looks like he should be Superman's canine companion when he's wearing it).  The only time we'll raw the line is if it's really torrential, but both he and I are happy to go out in heavy rain.

I wear an old army canvass long jacket that isn't waterproof in anything other than a shower.  The plus side is it has tons of pockets and can either be hung out to dry if the rain stops or put in the tumble dryer.

Yes. It doesnt bother me or most of my dogs to go out in the rain. Sometimes it can be a nice change. Though I dont spend the day out like i enjoy doing when its sunny.
