im thinking of showing my whippet bitch , just in a small way , and hoped that someone out there could tell me if there is any shows within a reasonable distance of the west midlands ( dudley)

it would be our first time so any other tips and tricks you can give us would be most wellcome

For Whippet club shows, probably your closest would be Midland Whippet Club show (19th October), I am not sure where it is as I am not from those parts, but I expect someone else could help or do a search on the internet to find a contact number for the secretary of the club.

If you are just starting out showing, I would highly recommend going to your regional whippet club show as you will get to meet people that should help you out and watch lots of experienced people handling and showing.

For all breed open shows just check in the dog press, Dog World or Our Dogs, most have whippet classes and really worthwhile too.

One of the best ways of getting in to showing is to find your nearest General Canine Society. As you live in Dudley there is a canine society. The secretary is Mrs D Pritchard and her telephone number is 01384 212732. She will be able to tell you when they have either ringcraft or match meetings. By going to these you can learn how to show your Whippet and also pick up other information regarding other local societies where you could go to practice. If you buy a dog paper, such as Dog World, you will find out about shows that are to be held. You will also be able to pick up schedules from the ringcraft/match meetings.
