Hi

I am just about to start driving again after a few years break and now have our recent addition (Bobby 2 1/2 yr old failed racer) to consider!

I wondered what kind of cars people have and how they suit their dogs?

I really only want a small hatchback but the boot space needs to be fairly large - we won't be travelling any long distances but just nipping about town.

Any suggestions welcome - I can only afford an old banger type!

We are 2 adults/2 children/ 1 large hound

I have a chrystler voyager or mine but OH has a renault clio which is ok as long as you have no one in the back. We did at one time have a renault laguna estate wasn't expensive to run we went to posh totty's in it a couple of years ago 500 mile round trip on £50 of petrol ( was cheaper then) there was plenty of room in the back for William and he is a big show greyhound most likely bigger than your ex racer

Vauxhall Astra, they are not too big and have a large estate back.

We have a Citroen Berlingo - its good on fuel, very spacious, and best of all is the view you get when reverse parking, I can park mine anywhere! We've removed the seats from the back of ours, but they do fold right up behind the driver/passenger seats. We took ours out because we needed the extra few inches to get 4 cages in the back - we love it

I knews to have a skoda hatchback and I could get my ex racer in the back and she had anoth room to streach out and stand up.

Now I have a skoda estate 1.4, I could get two ex racer in the back. Now Fleet has the back to himself as he is quite a big lad. On the back seat a cage for whippets and there is room for a child.

My car is good on fuel.

Should have mentioned the Berlingo, my greyhound fits behind the back seat, the most economical version is the 1.6 hdi, you can get 60 mpg out of them! Mine is a 2ltr hdi I get 45 mpg out of her. Loads of room to for kids.

when we go out with the dogs we use hubby's car which is a Fiat Multipla,its great as we take the middle seat out in the back and there is loads of room for 3 dogs and 2 kids in the back

Hi, I've got a Toyota Hilux Surf 2.4 diesel. I love it its great loads of space quality for the dogs and very safe :thumbsup: its like driving a tank lol indistructable and bomb proof as seen on top gear lol. I wouldn't have anything else now. Clare

would agree have had to of the hatchbacks used to get two large standard poodles in the back grandkids on the back seat

I'll probably go for the Vauxhall Astra - the size doesn't scare me too much and I should be able to pick up an older one in my price-range!

Keep suggestions coming though as I won't be buying for a few weeks yet!

(w00t) i started off with a nissan almera......7 whippets ago, fitted both girls in fine :thumbsup:

but ive had to move on to a mini bus now (w00t) :lol:

i am the worst driver in the world been driving 3 years and im on my 5th car :- "

i went from driving a teeny 206 to a zafira, its like driving a bus but its good fun.

was really scared driving it at first wi it beening so big but you get use to it and the amount of space in the boot is huge, i can get 6 people 2 whippet (still room for another though) and a buggy in my car 2 kids in big car seats. and everyone still has room.

plus its only a 1.6 so its not bad on petrol

definatly worth looking into a bigger car, im glad we did :thumbsup:

i have a diawoo matiz that i use for the dogs and with the bk seats down acomadates my four whippys no probs and room for one more ,£97 a year to inshure cheap tax and really good on petrol :cheers:

We have a Skoda Octavia Estate which comfortably fits one Max and Tiny - or probably 3 greyhounds which aren't Tiny (he has space issues). It would probably fit about 5-6 whippets or about 10 iggies! (w00t)

We had 2 greyhounds and a citroen AX and went all over the country. As long as they get a few stops for a walk and a stretch I am sure they are not too bothered. Mine as such lazy lumps they just hop in and straight to sleep. We did buy a citroen estate later on so that we could take some lugagge for ourselves. When we sold the car on ebay we used the picture of 2 enormous greyhounds in the AX to explain why we were selling.

I've got a Fiat Punto, four whippets fit easily on the back seat (room for 2 more if they utch up a bit and Jessica gets up on the parcel shelf :b ).

Before long there will be SEVEN in it :blink: .
