Hi All

I know you like looking at my old photos - or you wouldn't be looking at these threads.

This track was a bit special - most races were 5 dog races they used fastest 3rd in the semi making up 5 dog finals!!

In the picture - I think Vikkie Plum is in the 5 dog, but who got the flyer from the black box?

And do you recognise any of the other runners or owners?

:luck:

before my time :teehee:

but ive often chatted with Ray Jones about racing at Wokingham on a football pitch?.

The signposts are for a Nottingham company so it's more likely to be Dosthill or thereabouts.

Before my time too - well, not actually before my time - but before my whippet time at least :)

looks like Wokingham to me...im sure mum will know when she see's it as they raced every Friday night there

looks like wokenham to me too.the sunday club raced there for a while when it lost its ground at the epilepsy centre.this was when john manders was secretary

Yes the track is at Wokingham Town FC in Finchampton Road (near the railway)

Not there any more I looked on Google Maps and I think it is now a Pet@home.

Roy Merrryweather was the race Manager and Manager of the FC if I'm not mistaken.

I think the dog out of the 4 trap that got the flyer is Joy Fisher's RCh Saucy Sylph (blue bitch)

I remember Saucy Sylph winning the Wokingham Derby one year so I know she would have been used to the track and traps.

Not sure about the others - Red Box was likely to be RCh Sam's Mirage - but not 100% sure

I think this was our 'half coat' Vikkie Plub in orange five (Fawn bitch) - otherwise why did we have the photo.

It also looks either early one Friday summer evening or one of the WWRC's Sunday Opens held there.

Haven't recognise any of the people - any help

It's pretty obvious who they are Rob.

I can recognise Neil Morrisey from Men Behaving Badly in the backgound, little Jimmy Krankie swinging from the railing and 70's figure skating nancy boy John Curry in a fetching grey top :)

Not much help?

I'll do better next time :teehee:

I'm sure your wrong about Little Jimmy Krankie. I thought Ronnie Corbett.

So enjoyed seeing this picture Rob they were happy days yes Roy Merryweather was the manager of the football club and the racing .

I believe he now owns a flower shop just outside Reading .

can,t make out the owners eye,s not as good has they used to be maybe someone still racing might recognize themselves .

Just had another look and the fellow in the blue Jumper looks like a young Ray Scutter to me ?

could the woman be Lynne Brion? They used to race there a lot?

Hi Sue

Glad you liked the picture.

I'm not from the Area so not sure about Roy Merryweather - but thought he was now involved with Slough Town FC

My idea for the race (in the picture) is that it might be the Inter-cub of 82 as a lot of EA members were there.

If it was RCh Sam's Mirage is in 1 (Wokingham), Jackie's Lass in 2 (Andover), Silver Gem in 3 (Invitation), RCh Saucy Sylph in 4 (Harvel) and our Vikkie Plum in 5 (EA).

the result was 4,5, 1, 3, 2 but this race was 9.30pm and it doesn't look like the floodlights are on to me but the camera may have reacted to the 'dim' light.

If anyone is interested the forcast paid out £31.57 but fairly sure I wasn't luck to get it

Does anyone recognise the people in the Picture?

The other thing I find interesting was that this track fitted into the inside of the Football pitch so the bend would have suited the little front runners! - tight and short.

Rob...

Hi Rob Ernie and i used to race at wokingham Ernies dog touch of gold won the wokingham derby in 1985 and he aslo had Lets go and Apache - both good dogs roung Wokingham and we also had my dog Pink Champage. who had some good tussles with Mitcham Mover. REgarding the photo i know that Dave Langley owned Sams mirage and George Osbourne owned Silver Gem - so may be its one of them in picture. Also its a wonder that Joy raced cos Ernie told me that one nigght she travlled down from Kent to race and Wokingham and when she arrived she then only realised she had left all her dogs at home. (w00t) They were very good days there and really good racing thanks to Roys handicapping.
