hi all was wondering which is the best food for our 3 month old whippet pup.at moment she is on bakers dry puppy food. she does not eat much of it at all really .and also is very hyperactive even after her walks.and another thing she trys eating her own dog poo.any advice will be greatly appreciated .many thanks

I'll say it - Bakers is not the best food out there, it's like doggie McDonalds, all the additives and sugars are making your pup hyper.

do you feed wet or dry? out of my own experience I can recommend Arden Grange, James Wellbeloved, Burns, out of wet Nature's Menu and Nature's Diet.

in general, you have to look out for a high meat content (I believe all the supermarket foods don't have meat content higher than 10%, and even than it's not exactly steak they put in there), I prefer foods that don't have dairy, soya and wheat.

Most of the community advise against Bakers as it is full of additives and colourings.

I have Toddy on Iams puppy and he is doing well on it. He is a hyper pup though.

I asked this same question a month ago when Toddy arrived and the advice was mostly for James Wellbeloved, Burns or Arden Grange puppy.

I have not changed yet as I have a bag of Iams to finish. I will then move onto Arden Grange or wellbeloved. I need to check if either are kibble as I prefer my dogs on biscuit. It helps keep their teeth clean.

Remember when changing to a new food to do it gradually by introducing the new feed mixed into the original so as not to upset puppys stomach.

both JWB and AG have dry and wet in their range ;)

hi thanxs all could you please tell me where i can buy these foods from or are they of the internet .

I get my James Wellbeloved from Petplanet (online) - free postage and it nearly always comes the next day after ordering (if like me you leave stuff to the last minute :b ). You can also get it from Jollyes pet store and my local market has two stalls that sell it. I prefer to order it because I buy the big 15kg bag (got two whippets) and this way it comes straight to my door without any heavy lifting on my part! ;) You can get puppy, junior (for after 6 months) and adult (for after a year) and it has different flavours so they don't get bored.

Pets at Home also stock JWB, Pets Corner has both JWB and Burns. AG can be found in some independant pet shops or online including their own site.

I feed Pro Plan . You can get differnt puppy ones , Salmon /Rice Chicken and rice and small breed puppy would suit yours , little kibble , mine all love any flavour

You will notice a difference in your puppy's behaviour when you stop feeding Bakers!

Hi, hope Carolj doesn't mind me using her question to ask another. Gracie is 10 weeks today and I have used the food that Rachel and Jo provided and weaned her onto James Wellbeloved, puppy kibble mixed with JW puppy wet food. Any feelings from anyone regarding mixing wet and dry? Incidentally, she hasn't had an upset tummy (nice poos) and loves her food.

I mix dry with wet :- but not 50/50, I add about 50-75 g to their normal kibble portion, the spoilt spaniel started to go off his food in his puppyhood, so I stuck to that to get him eat properly. the main disadvantage is they can get tartar since the dry kibble gets slightly soaked.

Eukanuba can make your puppy hyper active, speaking from experience!!!!!!!! I tried it on one of mine and she became manic!!!!!!! wouldn't settle, always on the go, so I put her on Skinners gundog puppy, vat free! She did very well on it and calmed down.

I,ve already posted on the same thread somewhere else

I had Blue on Eukanuba too when I first had her and she was difficult to settle, she's now on raw and a total dream :D
