Just wanted to say, I don't go on any roads with Zephyr on the bike, - I cycle on the pavements to the park and then to the local cycle trail and nature reserve where it is safe. Personally I wouldn't want to risk taking him without the Springer, as it is so easy for them to unbalance you and pull you over.
