Whippet Diet Help

It depends on the age of the dog, if it is a pet, for show or for sport and to a degree on the individual.

My whippet sadly does not seem to digest certain types of protein properly so I feed her on fish based dried foods which are easier to digest and in many cases good for the skin, ‘James Wellbeloved’ fish and rice went down well.

I can only comment based on my whippet and there are people on this site far more experienced, but mine will eat anything and everything she can get near animal, vegetable or mineral. Generally she does well with regular exercise, as many opportunities to run off lead as possible and a good quality food, this doesn’t necessarily mean the most expensive, with the odd treat (sometimes left over veg and/or meat) thrown in to keep life interesting.

Is that four walks of an hour each or four walks totalling an hour every day?

If it is four one hour walks a day that is far too much for a 9 month old growing puppy.

With regards to diet; I think raw meats with a wholemeal mixer can't be beaten; with extras like eggs, sardines, veggies etc.

However, if not wanting to feed raw then I think Fish 4 Dogs is the best complete food available.

I would feed two meals a day at that age; and would decide the amount by how she looks. I certainly wouldn't ever recommend weighing out food for a growing youngster; I've seen a very severely under weight pup whose owner was feeding the recommended amounts as per the food companys instructions and as a result always advise people to judge the amount needed by how the individual dog looks; like us humans they're all different!!

Totally agree with Rachel,no food is ever weighed out in this house i tend to go by what they look like, 1 of my girls will put on weight if she so much sniffs an extra biscuit and the other could eat forever and still look a bit on the skinny side  raw is the best diet available to your dog imo

thank you for the information and 4 walk a day adding up to an hr
