Hi all,

I would like to come over and have a look at some Victorian whippets. What shows get a decent entry, apart from the September champ show and the Royal, please? Is there a Hound Club at all? Or an open show run by the club?

With thanks

Jackie

I think it depends lot on who is judging, but the Expo held in Caulfield Racecourse (3&4th February this year) used to attract big entries (I have not been for years). The shows I attended in the past 12 months generaly have the same people with approximately 20 - 30 Whippet entries, but i only show about once a months or even less frequently. :)

-_- -_- FYI -

The largest entries seem to be under Internationals and they are either the ADI Show and Cranbourne (Jan.26 & 28th) this year. Then of course The Whippet Assoc.'s Champ show in September (180-200 exh.) & the Melbourne Royal (100-30'ish). The Sunbury Melbourne Cup Day show usually attracts about 50-60 entries and the Hound Club of Victoria is held this weekend also and attracts about the same amount. Of course there are shows every weekend from one side of the state to the other with local or interstate judges, and at tops you will see between 20-30 whippets. ;) ;)

 Sued

If it's mainly whippets you want to see, do the Melbourne Specialty then 2 weeks later visit the most beautiful city in Australia :D - Sydney and their Whippet Specialty and a Houndfest so several Hound Specialties and a Sighthound Show. The Hound Club show is the week after the Sydney Specialty.

Cheers

which would give you enough time to fly back down to Melbourne for some more sightseeing :D

When would be the best time for Uk visitor to visit Sydney to see Whippets ?

Would prefer it not to be too hot :sweating: !

If anyone can work the weather out lately, they deserve a medal! :) Nothing seems 'normal' anymore. Although you can be guaranteed that Melbourne will be colder and often wetter. :)

There are two whippet shows in Sydney - one on Easter Sunday and one the first weekend in October. My advice is come at Easter time as Sydney Royal (the biggest show in NSW) is on. Nothing like Crufts but just under 4,000 dogs over two weeks. Also, Easter generally has our largest whippet show entry. It's Autumn and the weather is generally cooler than October. The majority of shows have international judges.

For owners of multi breeds such as myself, Easter is always hectic. Between Royal Show days and the various specialties and group shows which can be on different grounds, it's quite exhausting. -_-

Cheers
