Is Candy a Whiggy June? She is lovely, she looks cream rather than white to me. If she is I might have to go over there and steal her away.
No she's a full pedigree whippet, but comes from a background of small racing whippets. Her grandmother is our Dangermouse, and she is only 15lbs, her great grandmothers on both sides were 16lbs. I like them small :huggles: Candy is white with fawn/cream markings. If you have smaller whippets, you can fit more in (w00t)
yours are exactly the kind of whippet I would love. Of course I could never show her, anything under about 12kg/19inches would have people turning their noses up at it over here. My 2 girls are about 17.5inches and 9kilos, which would still look like giants compared to your girl and they were considered too small to show here. I did breed one about that size and I just loved her, I wish I still had her. :( The modern day whippet in Australia doesn't hold much appeal for me.

There certainly are some large ones around, but I do not think they are getting bigger (comparing few years back). Ten years ago, when I took my Bess to show, she looked like a midget amongst all the other girls - she was almost 19.5" !!!!!!! More recently, my Claudia (18.5") did not look all that small in the ring, and was doing quite well - until she broke 2 of her toes. Her daughter Tallis (link to TWA) is 6.5 months old and is only 44cm, with not much more growing to do. She also does not stick out in the ring. Her 2 sisters are about the same size, and her brother is about 48cm (19").

I am quite sure that in the past (1920s, 30s and possibly even up to 50s) iggy or Iggy crosses were introduced into the "purebred" Whippets here in OZ and possibly in UK too. There is a registered Whippet litter in the 1950s from 2 unregistered Whippets - no record though that the progeny was used for further breeding here in Victoria, some might have gone to other states. And looking at some of the old Whippet photos, some certainly look lot like Iggys.

To the OP. As somebody who has owned Iggys (albeit a long time ago) , I would say; go and visit several breeders and then decide if that is what you want. :)

Whatever you decide :luck: :luck: :luck:

Thanks for all the feedback guys. The OH is still a work in progress and im thinking if WHEN! We do get another its probably best if its a whipppet (smallest in litter or something) mainly because of our Dukes ability to break things (including nearly my leg the other day when he ran flat out into me Ouch!) Also the house training problem with iggys, doesn't stop me wanting one though. By the way the photos of Barney and candy are gorgeous I think candy is probably the same size as my Dotty. Sue

Things have a way of working out in the end.................It must have been destiny! :luck:

My Dolly was 17.5 inches and about 7.5 kgs, i loved her size.

My little Maya was fine to house train, of course she is smaller so can't hold it as long as a big whippy but Runa can hold it all day if its raining and she does not like going out for a pee in the rain!! Maya will pop out and pee on the gravel to the left of the back door so quickly and get back inside in the dry.

Its funny if they go on the wet grass they leift up their legs and have a disgusted look on there faces, so funny!! It does pay to research them though as iggys are completey different to whippets!! My two love playing and doing the wall of death while Mojo is more of a laid back whippy!
