as you know i help with a dog rescue , a lady contacted me as she needs to find a new home for her 5 month old whippet pup .

he has been around children , cats and other dogs etc , is vaccinated and microchipped.

basically he is just being a typical whippet puppy and she cant cope :blink:

he is fawn brindle , a lovely nature and needs a good pet home .

why did she have a puppy in the first place?she should of thought hard before taking on a puppy,as they can be hard work :sweating: and need 100% of love,attention and training.i see she got children,cats and other dogs????what about the breeder?they should help in this situation.

she has contacted the breeder but the breeder says its ok for her to find the dog a home herself , as she knew i had whippets she got in touch with me to see if i knew anyone.

Can you tell us any more about him? How's his housetraining etc?

I know he's looking for a pet home, but out of interest, is he show or racing bred?

Would his owner be happy for your rescue to recieve a donation, or is she looking to recoup some of what she paid for him?

Poor wee boy. The breeder really should be taking him back. I wish there was a way to stop people like this owner getting dogs and then getting rid of them after a short while. Could we name and shame??

cant help with photos as he isnt with me , still at his "owners" house ,

he is show bred and is a stunning boy , only for his gay tail :b

if he had a "normal" tail he would be a future CH :wub:

she says he is house trained and has basic training , i have seen him sit (w00t)

the lady does want some of her money back but im only advertising as such for her so the rescue wouls not be in receipt of payment . i thought this would be a good place to enquire as most people on here know what its REALLY like to live with whippets !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rant: :rant: :rant: :wub: :wub: :wub:

It just makes me mad that 'they want their money back'. It's not like they are taking something faulty back to the shop. This is a living sentient being they are talking about, surely to goodness their first and only priority is to make sure the little one is found a loving forever home with someone who doesn't have their 'fussy out' after a few weeks. If they get money back they might just do it again with another poor dog. After all, didn't you say this is their second in a short time. Perhaps if they get hurt in the pocket they may not do it again. :rant: :rant: :rant:

so in some ways i can see the owners point of view asking a price for him ?????

she dosent want a lot of money . no where near the price she paid and she did pay full wack for him .

what is the policy etc on refund if a pup is returned etc ? ive never bred a litter so dont know if there is a set etiquette (sp)

Yes the breeder would ask money for the pup. If the breeder is a well known person, breeding regularly, he/she may have people waiting for pups, so will only have to contact few people on the list and sell the pup. BUT a "breeder" like myself, only breeeding litter now and then (just planning my 12th litter in 35 years), if i get a pup back at 5 months i would not have any orders. If i get somebody enquiring about my next litter at the time I just sold a litter i have to say to come back in in 2-3 years time, and certainly do not bother to take the persons name. Few years ago I got pup back when she was 7 months old, i ended up having her for 3 months. Most people want small puppy so one "second hand one" is not always easy to place, even if she is as well socialised as this particular pup was (children, cats and other dogs). I ended placing her in lovely home with retired couple, but only for fraction of what small pups sell for. But on the whole it was not a pleasant experience for me, as the little bitch seemed to be so happy to be home with us and i felt such a traitor having to send her away again. I felt it was not fair on her, and longer it took, and more settled with us she was more upsetting it was for me.

I will always take any of my pups back, but i do not want to give the buyer the idea that at anytime they get sick of the dog they can return it and get the full price back. Friend of mine got several of her dogs back (without refund) when they got really old and the owners could not be bother with them any more. My friend just took them in and they spent rest of their lives on her country property. But surely, people cannot expect to enjoy the dogs while they are young and healthy, then return them to the breeder when they get old and in need of more intensive veterinary care, and cash in what they paid for their pup originally.

It is not just the case of re-couping money, i would never offer a dog "free to good home" as you then get people wanting the dog just because it is free.

its hard, isn't it? you want to ask on here to give the poor dog the best chance of getting a home with someone who knows something about the breed, but it is like walking through a minefield!!!!!! :unsure:

Sorry a dog is for life, She, like you said already rehomed one resuce dog. so why did she get another dog. :rant:

I would not dream of asking for my money back, its apart of the family. These sort of people should be SHOT, any one with any sense knows, that pups take alot of work. Thats one reason why i got Zeb. Its like handing over one of the kids because they are hard work. :rant:

Just hope this little one gets a loving home for the rest of his life. With people how know what they are doing.

I used to have a black lab cross, I loved him like anything!!! I would kiss and cuddle him, he was a great dog :huggles:

Before we got our first whippet, I went to look at a black lab. My sister used to work in a top class gun dog kennels. They had this fantastic black lab who had been trained twice but every time he went home, the kids used to mess up his gun dog training by playing tug-of-war with him :wacko:

the owners sent him back to kennels for one last time, but said that if a suitable owner cropped up they would definately re-home him.

I went to see him, he was exactly what I like in a dog - a large, friendly, smiley, well-trained dog!

I spent some time with him, really liked him - but soon developed an itchy rash! I was allergic to him!

I spent last summer working in rescue kennels at weekends and found that he is not the only dog I am allergic too, but I am fine with mine :cheers:

so all I am saying is that every situation is individual and perhaps its more important to look at a solution that to spend time worrying about the cause - after all, it ain't gonna change anything, this poor dog is still in need of a home regardless of what us like-minded, dog-loving people say or think :blink:

after all, if everyone on K9 agrees that this situation is wrong, and none of us want to see these dogs turning up looking for new homes, then pointing out who has done what is really like preaching to the converted! :thumbsup:

that is why rescue centres are so full , and they always will be .

people make mistakes and unfortunatly its the dogs that suffer.

some ARE genuine , but the vast majority just cant be botherd , if i work out how much damge mine have done to my house i think id have a breakdown :blink:

it cost me £50 on sat to but a new phone as they had decided i was using it too much so chewed all the wires (w00t)

nice doggies helping me reduce my phone bill (w00t)

but as you say doris , there is no point going over the whys and wherefores ,

we can not help it if people keep making mistakes , all we can do is the best for the dogs and help them find a forever home :wub:

WELL SAID DORIS.

As someone who suffers from pet allergies I KNOW you can be allergic to one dog and not to another. I spoke to my GP about it and she said "You wont know untill you live with the dog" because the allergy can take weeks or months to surface - hey presto, suddenly you have bad asthma..

Believe it or not you can be allergic even to one dog and not to another of the same breed. And for a pet lover it is excruciating.

I'm the same with cats Kitty (no pun intended!) some cats i'm absolutely fine with - others make me wheeze and sneeze & my eyes and skin itch. Some of those i eventually get used to, others i never do!
