Im off to the whippet of the year show on sunday at chesterfield and wanted to know exactly how it will be judged??? there is more than one judge and how is it different to other shows? Any ideas anyone??

There are three judges who will award points for each dog on type, conformation and movement. Usually it is done as a knock-out match type competition so you will have two dogs in the ring at any one time and the winner of each pair (i.e. the dog awarded the most points for the three things) goes into the next round. They often go right through the first round and then declare which dogs are through to the next round at the end, then for the subsequent rounds they will say at the end of each pair which dog goes through.

Very similar to our state Dog of the Year Finals (all breeds) but they have to qualify ie win a Best in Show All Breeds to enter the comp. Do the whippets for this have to qualify?

Are you taking your camera Ozzy? Would LOVE to see pics of the winners..... and any others that take your fancy ....

All the whippets at the UK Whippet of the Year have to have qualified by winning a CC or a Best puppy in Breed at a Championship show.

I have been advised that:

"It will be judged on points not a knock out like pet plan do, the results are kept secret , not put up on the board, only the score keepers will know them, so everyone will be on their toes untill the end when Whippet of the Year is anounced"

Don't see how that will work ........ what happens if there is a tie for points???

The year Montee was in it I think the judges just had to vote which one they prefered and as there were 3 judges you never got a tie. Im going up to watch cos it`s not too far for me and i`ll take camera too, Lana

I have looked out my invitation (hoping to find directions!) and it states:

The competitions will be scored on a points system, separate marks being given for Conformation, Type and Movement. Three dogs enter the ring together and be judged by the three judges. Marks will be announced when all first round judging has been completed. The top scorers will re-enter the ring for final assessment.

So now you know how it will be run!!!

Dawn (or anyone local to the area) please can you give specific directions to the venue ........... I can get to Staveley but where is it from there???

Hi all

leaving via the M1, the Speedwell rooms are signposted just before u enter the centre of Staveley

Good Luck :)

Hope this helps

Heather

I actually have just had a rummage and found the directions on the tickets!!!! I will be able to get there now insteading of panicing (I hate not knowing exactly where I am going)!!!!

Hope to see you all Sunday, Rupert is in the Puppy competition and Ronan is in the Adult one

:luck: Good luck Caroline,Rupert and Ronan and everyone else who's in the comp!

Thanks Jax for taking your camera - I wait anxiously to see pics :p Does anyone make a video of it for sale?

Yes, Good luck Caroline, Ronan & Rupert and all the others, hope you all have a fabulous day. I would love to go watch, perhaps next year...

Have a great time - do you know who the judges are before the event or are they only revealed on the day?

The judges are revealed on the day Joe. I will be taking my camera along as well and hopefully my friend will be taking her video camera, but don't all hold your breath!!!

Dessie , have you not been to Stavelly before ? SYWC have most of there shows there. It`s a better venue to get to than Grenoside, I`m sure you`ve been there in the past. See you Sunday You`d better check that they will let you video though,

Best of luck to you all, Im glad the venues changed, it was so packed last year you could hardly move.

I hope the judges turn out lucky for you, pray for an alrounder Dessie!!

Hi Dessie

I dont think you will be able to video, I know we don't allow video cameras at our show so I would imagine it will be the same for whippet of the year. I will check and get back to you.

Would somebody be so kind as to explain why you can not video. Jill

There is nothing to say videoing will not be allowed but there are some whippet clubs (and other breeds) who do not allow filming/videoing of moving dogs in the class the reason being that permission may not have been gained for the dogs being videoed. If the video is then used for a critical judgment of the dog it is seen as unfair.

For clarification I suggest contact with Shirley Rawlings re videoing or simply ask on the day whether it is accepted or not. It was due to a complaint by a club member that SYWC prohibited the use of video equipment within the hall at shows.

I have heard tonight that the road to linking Stevely centre and The Speedwell Rooms will be closed on Sunday. There will be a diversion setup. ANyone coming off the M1 at jnct 30 should follow the signs BEFORE you get to the bridge over the railway ie before you get into Staveley - Allow time to get there.

Dawn

Thank you Dawn for the reply on videoing at shows. In Aust the club usually gets a person to video. Usually a person that is familiar with dogs. The club then sells the videos to whom ever want's one. Good for club funds. Jill

Thanks for the tip-off about the road closure Dawn. How far are we talking in miles??
