Hi Karen,
Interesting comments...so this is my day...

up at 4.20AM, get showered, short walk with dogs, feed dogs, cup of tea and bit of breakfast.

5.30AM arrive at work, 9.00AM approx. start delivery of mail, finish around 1PM, sometimes onto clinic for my blood tests (warfarin).

2.00PM collect Hannah our ten month old baby from child minder, after another short walk with dogs.

3.00PM put baby to sleep, and try and grab some lunch.

4.30PM start feeding Hannah, and prepare her for Mum's return.

5.30PM Mum get's home and takes over. Longer walk with dogs, returning about 6.30PM.

7.00PM approx Hannah goes to bed, and we have some dinner, tidy up a bit and watch a little TV.

10.00PM bed  -_-

Yep, it's a schedule, but worth it...

Did look into moving North too, about 18 months ago, I could of transferred and my wife would have no problem finding work. After, some investigation we estimated our earnings would drop by about £300 a month, but after selling our house, we would of been just £25000 short of buying a house outright where we wanted to go. This would of given us a reduction in outgoings of approx £550, making us better off by about £250 a month. I think, we may consider it again it again when I have my 2nd op and get back on my feet again...

This is in reply to the poster who reckons life is no dearer in the South East.

kind Regards,

Paul

Thanks for the reply, the north is a big place house prices differ i live in HG house prices are in line with south east and as you pointed out wages are lower by the way i dont "reckon" i know

I too live in Yorkshire and as Masta says house prices differ considerably if you want to live in a nice part of Yorkshire then you will be paying a nice price for a house, as with anywhere you can get cheap houses if you want to live in a shit hole

My husband is a dustbin man in an area which doesn't yet have wheelie bins and the wages like the job are 'rubbish', but it pays the bills, the postie wages are'nt much better either from what I've been told.

As for racing in Yorkshire well there paractically is none I travel 45 mins every Sunday to lancashire, and Opens and Champs are hours away from me so in a transit that proves expensive.

Just for the record I don't think that all people in the South are rich and I have never had anyone say that to me  so I think you may be talking to the wrong Yorkshire folk, I think you need to talk to some people who actually live here because if you keep the perception you have of this place and decide to move here you may be dissapointed.

Racing is a voluntary sport and it can be expensive I agree but we all still do it don't we

Just off to put my flat cap on now :teehee:

"and a postman in the South, what with mortgages and the rest is worse off than his colleagues in Yorkshire for example"     what is that supposed to mean?
Effing typical! all us down South are effing wealthy! Don't you effing realise some of us dicks down here have to do the shite jobs! typical northern shite! We still need our streets cleaned, our shopworkers, our post delivered, don't you realise we struggle to get teachers, nurses etc. because the cost of living is effing too high!

So, it's supposed to mean a postman in Yorkshire is likely to have a better standard of living than one in East London/Essex. And THAT IS FACT! Do you understand that? Yep, I'm right, everyone up North reckons down South we are all so rich, it's unbelievable....

Me? Pissed off hearing about how shite life is in the North, we do have working classes down here, don't you know! And don't give it the big one about the industry and all that balls, I know what redundancy is mate.and I'm still owed thousands, which I'll never get!

And GOVERNMENT facts... six of the poorest regions (councils) out of ten are in London.

Christ! One comment, and it's a full on strop!

Didn't even know the tit.

Had enough!

Have you realy spoken with EVERYONE up north about what we feel about those down south and how wealthy they are?? if you have you missed me out.Life in the north is brilliant as it is in the south, chill out m8 and enjoy yourself there are worse things going on in the world than people complaining about north and south, and the cost of things they enjoydoing.

If you buy cheap house then you live in a shit hole mmmmmmmm

I'm talking about in my area, you can get a cheap house in comparison with the average price, which are in the more run down areas of Yorkshire and believe me there are some shit holes here,I can say that because I live here, and see them, do they have cheap houses in the nicer areas of where you live? because they don't in mine, you pay more money to live in a nice area here, unfortunatley, if that wasn't the case I'd be living in a detached with a few acres in the best part of Yorkshire

And what I actually said was:you can get cheap houses if you want to live in a shit hole

Not if you buy a cheap house you live in a shit hole

And just so I am not accused of snobbery here I live in an ex council house which still cost me twice as much as some of the very same houses in other areas because mine is classed as a rural area

For that you'd get yourself a back to back or an ex council :- " we've been looking at moving to a different area not far away but more rural but similar houses and you can add on another 50 grand

Or you could move to one of the more undesirable areas and get yourself one for £40,000  thats a shit hole price

Previous council owned property (3 bed semi's) are starting from £140k where I used to live (Eccleston, St.Helens) mainly because council estates in nice areas have been bought out by residents and they've put a lot of effort into making their council houses into desirable homes.

The way I see it, unless your fortunate to have a substantial income, as a young family your going to be totally screwed in trying to find a ''quaint'' little neighbourhood for your children to grow up in. So effectively young couples today have no choice but to buy property from the lower end of the market (?? shitholes)

As my old dad use to say don't bite off more than you can chew.

p.s nowt wrong with x council houses

Oh dear seems my words are getting used in a totally didfferent way in which I meant :(

Jac If you lived where I do you'd know what I meant  if you're lucky enough not to have any bad areas where you live good on ya  and I don't mean quaint I just mean without druggies, riots, areas owned by non whites(no I'm not being racist just honest we have a few) and loads of teenagers hanging about looking for trouble, even the young families don't want to live there, they are not the lower end of the market, they are the shit holes

Oh I know where your coming from Lesley, I'm just commenting that the way house market prices are going, people starting out on the property ladder just don't have a choice anymore, and that even obtaining ex council property can be hard to get these days financially.

Lets say no more on the matter girls

It's ok I think we are agreeing  house prices are ridiculous I really feel sorry for young people starting out on the property ladder, and even for people who are stepping up its such a big gamble that you are paying the top end of the market prices and there is always that worry that there may be a slump like last time where people ended up with thousand in negative equity :sweating:

Ooh the great property debate!!! We have been wanting to move for nearly a year now, from the North Lakes to Greater Manchester for OH's job. We will have to make do with an ex council house as they are around the same price as ours will fetch.

No we're not too proud for a council house, but having spent a couple of months on a council list we were offered a house (w00t) Hooray we thought. So we set of for Tonge Moor in Bolton.....we didn't feel safe sitting in the car with the doors locked :( Having said no to the council we are now way down the list!!

Travelling to racing is a right pain as it takes us up to an hour to get to major roads, everywhere is roughly a 2-3 hour journey but you just get used to it .

We don't go everywhere racing, but its not too bad with young kids as you just have to have a good routine.

North v South...well im from the Midlands (not quite south but south enough from here) and could never afford to move back.

Overall cost of racing these days...well we dont have expensive holidays away. The cost of an average family holiday plus spends = £4000??? You can have a good year racing for that!

With respect, I bought at the age of 21 in the height of the price rises in the late 1980's, we could just about squeak a mortgage then. I think it is almost impossible for young people to have an income that will allow them a mortgage to cover even the cheapest of properties in a half decent area now. The only difference is, our interest rate went up to 15 % in 89, they are lower now. Would you want your kids living in an area with junkies and riots? I wouldn't.

Going back to North South divide. There are expensive and cheaper areas in both, it's all about priorities. Some people save all year for a package holiday abroad, or a new car, others aspire to a transit van with fitted dog cages so they can stand about in the freezing cold and peeing down rain to run their dogs............Choices.

I think racing could be very expensive if you want to run loads of dogs. I would be more concerned about the feeding, vet bills, insurance for a large number of hounds combined with your travel and accomodation, it would be pricey wherever you live ;)
