Hello all,

After my post last week on Whippet Rescue in Scotland......

We have decided that we would definately like another whippie, but that having a rescue one would be preferable as we would like somthing a bit older then a pup.

I called the lady at the whippie rescue and she was really unhelpful! She said that she had nothing in, didnt know when anything would be coming in, and couldnt help me.

I was really surprised...... , I thought that she would at least be able to point us in the right direction.

So if anyone knows of any whippies needing a new home in N England/Scotland then please give me a shout. Not fussed if its a bitch or dog, would like anthing up to 3 years ish.

We also went to the cat and dog home in Edinburgh, didnt realise it closed at four o clock tho  ! Had a look round, its quite sad actually as loads of really stressed out wuffs. We only saw one that took our fancy, a black greyhound, small boy who looked really depressed :( . We couldnt take him out though as ran out of time. We might go back and see him out this weekend if he is still there. Pimms wants a playmate.

From my own personal point of view though I would prefer another whippie. So if anyone has any ideas then let me know!

Thanks all!

Gemma and Pimms

Sorry to hear you didnt have any luck at the rescue centre gemma but the good news is no one in this area has dumped or hurt a whippet a centre with no dogs in is a happy centre.

I thought there was a waiting list? Best of luck with the black grehound but if he is gone keep looking through here, there is a often whippet needing home mentioned on K9. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Did you see this one?

Mrs Skelley co-ordinates the J.R. Whippet Rescue in Scotland. There is no centre she relies on a network of 'friends' of the Whippet Rescue to take on various aspects of the work, all on a voluntary basis. Mrs Skelley, and several of the friends, will travel all over Scotland to meet people who are having some sort of difficulty in looking after their Whippet(s). Often she is able to match people who are wanting to re-home with a dog which requires re-homing and there is no need for fostering. This is an ideal situation and not always possible - for several reasons. Rescued dogs come with a history. Sometimes it's obvious that a dog that has become aggressive towards children for example, needs to be re-homed where there are no children. Injured dogs sometimes need a period of intense nursing, others mearly require an assessment to allow them to be properly matched to a new home. Re-homing is not just a question of here's a home and here's a dog. Many of the Scottish dogs who come to the Rescue are fostered by a wonderful volunteer who runs boarding kennels, others are placed with volunteer families, who look after them free of charge, apart from vet's bills, which can be considerable! Many dogs who come to the Rescue to be re-homed are older, often left when loving owners have died. At the end of last year I took on two dogs who came to the Rescue aged 14 and 11. They came from a situation where the owners had died. The oldest one needed considerable vet care to inprove her quality of life, but given the state of her overall even my vet was doubful about going ahead. She is old and frail but enjoys life, we love her to bits, in spite of her eccentricities, and will see out her life with us.

Rescuing and re-homing is not easy.In Scotland we are lucky to have people like Mrs

Skelley. And, as chellie said is it not a positive thing that at the moment there is nothing available. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
