Not the most glamourous post i`ve had to make but need a bit of advice here.Over the past week my Missy has took it upon herself in the early hours of the morning to go into the bathroom and crap on the floor. For months she`s been great, went in the back yard when i get up in the morning or down the park.I let her out last thing at night but it doesn`t do the trick. The punishment for these crap crimes has been show her the mess, tell her off then put her in the yard for an hour or so,which she hates, but still the next day she seems to forget and repeats. She doesn`t go anywere else in the house just nips in the bathroom, like i do a few times a day and usually read a paper,or do the crossword if up to it,Any advice? And i do shut the door, but she pushes it open btw.Thanks......

Unfortunately to tell her off that long after it's happened and to punish her then really does no good for her. She doesn't know what you're on about. She just knows now that you wake up cranky and punish her. That may actually be making the problem worse. It may just be that as it gets closer to morning she worries that you're going to wake up mad, which stresses her. A stressed dog needs to poop - and voila there's a problem.

If you don't wake when she does during the night (ie if she doesn't sleep in your room so you can't hear her get up) then it might be worthwhile for a few nights to set the alarm for say 4am and take her on a potty break. Then 5am, then 6am till you've got her going through again.

Some retraining is definitely needed, but punishment well after the fact will not help you in the long run. She just won't get it.

I'd ignore the fact that it's there and clean up without a word. I would tho' consider changing the sleeping arrangements. What about making her a nice comfy bed in a crate? Walk her last thing as usual and then tuck her up for the night. :luck:

Just had another thought...................train her to use the loo! :- " :- "

Sorry george but im crapping myself here. you gotta give the dog credit, its dumping in the right place innit, unless you catch little missy actually passing her steamers, its no use showing her cos her wont have a clue what shes being punished for, and on that note i need a dump myself

keith  god i love k9 sometimes, :p

cheers Keith good to hear,i just spent a good 25 minutes in there actually reading my new book`wild irish women`(Extraordinary lives from history)by Marian Broderick.

But on a serious note cheers for the pointers,a few of you are right i have changed her routines a bit so will look at this and try new ways of dealing with this recent dump invasion of my bathroom.
