Our Inga will not go in the water. All the whippet books tell me they love water but he just stands there shaking like a................whippet!

Does anyone know why and how we may be able to coax him in.Its so hot when we go to Devon in summer and I'm sure he would love it.

Oscar hasnt attempted water yet annlouise :( but I know plenty whippets here on K9 that love water.

Nana swam properly for the first time last week (she's 20 months) :) . I threw a stick into the river, a little further than normal, at first she was suprised  and a little frightened  , then she found she loved it :D and went round and round in circles, not sure she's worked out how to go straight yet.

I have two siblings. Bobo thinks getting wet is horrid, her brother Oskar regularly both sits and lies down in water. He will even put his head (and ears!) under water (the bubbles???). There is account for tastes and they are all different but I have to say most of mine think water is for drinking and anything else is misuse.

All the whippets ive ever had would rather walk on water than go through it. Charlie even dances over puddles which when im on the other end of the lead surrounded by mud can be annoying :b

My whip has loved the sea when we have taken him :D but a puddle or rain....nooo nooo nooo :( :( won't entertain that at all. As for a bath (w00t) (w00t)

Whippets are like people , some like water others dont (w00t) ( I prefer vodka :- " )

No seriously , what ever you do dont force him into water , that will make him really hate it  Ive some , Woody mainly , that cant resist going into any water whatever state its in , ! he squeals as he puts his head under the water , even if it s only a puddle  Ive got a great video of him on my camera of him squealing and leaping about in a local lake :p . Heres one of him getting out of a local stream , that at the moment is nearly empty and when hes been in it he comes out a black/brown smellie whippet (w00t)

To get Ten in the sea the first time, my OH went in with him

Ten loved it and was off swimming beside Rik straightaway - before this he was scared of the waves and wouldn'r go past ankle depth :p now we can't keep him dry

Goodluck :luck:

Jilly won't go in but Jakey (JRT) loves it. Its quite funny to watch her running up and down the river bank if Jakeys in the water. At the beach the furthest she will go is to her knees but she's not too sure of the waves (w00t)

she absolutely adores running at full speed through the mud though usually with Jakey in hot pursuit  good job she doesn't mind having a shower as the pair of them end up caked in mud (w00t) she seems to enjoy the shower  think its just cold water she doesn't like (w00t)

What books are those? I'd say anecdotal opinion here is that nearly all of them HATE water! Ours will walk round a puddle rather than get his feet wet. Remember they feel the cold rather more than other dogs as they have little fur and body fat, so probably have a very particular dread of getting wet.

The only times ours goes near water is after he's been running very vigorously, when he will go in the river and immerse his chest to cool himself, quite clever really. But only for about half a minute, then he's back on the chase again. He won't follow labby friend into the river, ever.

Chance loves the water! Binx tends to kangaroo jump through the stream (w00t) and Indi (toy yorkie) just hates everything

Mine love the bath because it's warm but will only go in water when they need to get across something,

Love the "water with whippets"-pictures!!!

Here is one of mine from last year, must try and have a camera handy when he is lying down and blowing bubbles :p

But he certainly isn't 'normal' in any sense of the word.
