Anyone know which lines of whippets which still love to run in that Zig Zag across the field when play Running and Just suddenly stop running with the front legs and let the back-end legs swing all the way round 180d so the dog is facing the Other way in a split second, as the old saying goes " Turns on a Sixpence". my whippet boy has lost this lovely whippet trait which I love to see in these dogs. his blood is from laguna so you would think he should have this nice trait but sadly not which is a real shame, I think its been bred out at some point, its lovely to watch 2 whippets fun running with each other when they do this.

All the Laguna whippets I know can turn on a sixpence!! Did you get your dog from Lilah or from an advert in The Countryman's Weekly?

So do all the ones of my acquaintance and ownership, but then they were all either bred by Lilah herself, or close relatives.

I have asked breeders if they have any pups which look to be flighty with a hard turn, I just acquired a black and white whippet bitch pup from Cambridge that looks a fast bitch and has a good turn, her Dam is 19" BOBBY BLUE AM02778501 . and her Sire is 22" BO JANGLES AM01238102.

With a bit of luck this bitch could make a good size 20" to 21" she has a strong prey drive which I like to see in pups, watching her playing,

My Dog is 20" kc name is " Ted Spread " which can be looked up on the whippet archives, I don`t know what all the his lines are but they are some laguna blood lines in him. his a fast boy in a straight line but has a very bad turn at speed Rabbets give him the slip on the first turn.

You have to go back seven generations in that pedigree to find a single Laguna dog. On a seven-generation pedigree he has 1.56% Laguna blood, so to claim any ability or lack of it due to Laguna blood is ridiculous.

I've had a quick look at Ted Spread's pedigree and it is mainly show lines - Janelyn, Jarmane, Nevedith, Bubezi, etc, with a fast racing line- Casaloma, Red Devil, Catch the Wind etc.Hopw this helps.

No lines turn on a sixpence? Well that`s not what whippet people are saying about true laguna lines is it.!

You don`t trained these dogs to be agile they are born with it, we don`t all make top Gymnast do we, its in the Genes.

I watched my last litter of 8 pups at play, they was 2 pups out of 8 that did this fast Running and zig zag then Just suddenly stopping with the front legs and let the back-end with legs swing all the way round 180d. the same as there Great Grandmother did its in the Genes.

The real Lagunas are still very much alive and running! Lilah has just bred a litter!

So 2 out of your last litter were agile.... and 6 not so....

Hardly the whole 'line' can turn on a sixpence...

Individual dogs will be more agile... as others will be quicker... and so on...

If i was a gymnast.... does that mean my brother...sister...mother and aunt are gymnasts? ...

However... 'laguna blood' ... is just that...

Its not a laguna dog....

You see it ALL the time on gumtree.... 'mike brown whippets for sale' ....

Then see that lord of the knight was generations back.....

Same with laguna...

The dog is an ordinary whippet... (probably just as capable may i say) ...

With that blood x amount of generations back....

So therfore is advertised wrong.... and its not right IMO..

Mike Brown whippets: I have been told from 3 people which have seen his dogs,have said they are very large whippets more like whippet cross greys, also I read on the web Mike was asked if he would like to take part in Coursing meet or just come along to watch the dogs run but he declined the offer!

People say he only used the Laguna kennel name which was not his to use to see lots of pups.

I have 2 whippets 1 is a boy which has a mix of blood lines which is a good thing for the Gene pool for a strong healthy dog he has racing and show lines and seven- generation pedigree he has 1.56% Laguna blood, he cant turn that well at high speed.

I also have a bitch, Sired by BO JANGLES Which was bred from Lampers Lad, from Lord of the knight, Now she is a Cracking bitch and can Turn on a Sixpence. I phoned up breeders of whippets and asked if they had any fast flighty Pups in the litter which span round when playing, only 2 breeders at the time said yes and both had Lord of the knight Blood.

Do you know the kc Names of Lilah, Pups Sire and Dame , and has she got a website?

My lad Frankels Enchantment has plenty of Laguna and Nimrodel blood in him 3rd and 5th generation and he can turnon a sixpence. He is also like a bullet in a straight line. Think this photo captures it well.
