who gives money to them? i never have but have done to pdsa and dogs trust, now ive never had any hassle with them myself but heard so many peeps have old, young do we have any trust left for them?.

No, I hate the RSPCA - I would choose to give money instead to some of our smaller local rescues who do a great job

Hate the ARSEpca...

Stay away from them and support true animal welfare charities like the dogs trust.

Keep feeding the rspca money and in a few years there will be a license for longdogs and sighthounds alike....

And a ban on fieldsports as a whole!

i used to have a direct debit for them, to my shame i cancelled it cos they were ringing me up all the time, to give more. I already used to go over my overdraft often with these things so i cancelled them all. Afterwards i found out about their murderous tactics, and remain furious that i had paid for these boltgun-wielding scumbags to kill healthy animals, and accept money off folk then spend it on taking a few high profile cases to court.

They accept money off old people, to look after and rehome their pets after their death, and they put them to sleep before their owners are even buried. They are breed specific dog racists, pits staffys alsations, rotties, don't stand a chance with these guys. Bluewreckingit is right they will be coming for peoples hunting dogs next.

I kind of think they already are, heard some stories about enforced neutering of lurchers etc.

There used to be a tv programme which followed them around filming them catching injured swans, and all that kind of thing. It showed you them visiting people who weren't looking after their animals very well, and teaching them about what a dog needs, walks, water, etc. And giving them a chance to sort it out. I wouldn't dare ring them to report an animal that needed this kind of help now, you know they would just take it off, keep it in a kennel till they taken its owner to court, and then kill it...

I'm sure the folk who work at ground level for them, are all kind hearted folk who really want to help animals, but you can't imagine how they can cope with the whole 'business model', they must have cynicism in spades, not healthy.

Wow, I mean wow.

I done a bit of google searching and started off with bolt gun search. Specifically the 10german shepard story from 2009.

I made myself watch the YouTube video of how they do it to pigs etc and thought 'oh it kills them straight away'.

How wrong I was!

I cannot believe I was so unaware of this, and other stuff.

And to think I gave a large adoption fee when I adopted Oreo.

I dread to think what would have happened.

As a rule I don't give to many charities but dogs trust is one as I was given an 'oldie' to sponsor for Christmas.

I'm so glad I don't give to the RSPCA on a regular basis.

How did I miss all this?

Im glad people are seeing them for the idiots they really are!

An rspca officer wouldnt get an inch into my door, or my kennels ANYTIME.

They are money grabbing barstewards!

Animal welfare...my arse!

They are already out for hunting.... they spend MILLIONS each year of YOUR donations to file law suits against hunter and pass crappy laws through parliament to restrict fieldeports.

Scum! As far as im concernerd.

Had many an argument with the people holding the money donation buckets for them...they dont know the half of it...

I say...see this dog...

She will be out tonight catching rabbits, ill be eating them and nithing you, or the pompus prickks in the head office, say or do will EVER stop me...

They get my blood flowing. Apologies for the language.

blue i want to ask you this, if you see a dog thats not being treated right and needs help around your area what do you do? when me and you was talking bout the rspca a few months ago you said do my research so i did, so who do you ring or what do you do?

I once found a dog that had been kicked out of its home because is was no longer wanted. We took it home and fed it and watered it but we couldnt keep because it had a skin condition and i didnt want my dog to get it in case it was contagious. We called alot of places but only rspca would take it. After a few weeks we rang them to check on him and offered to adopt but they kept making up different excuses everytime we rang so i bet they put him down as he was a staffy sharpei sort of breed and pretty young too probs around 16 mnths old

The whole bolt gun episode with the shepherds was shameful in the extreme, and who knows whether it's happened in other cases that we just don't know about?

I work in GSD rescue, and I am used to bribing my way into the territories of scared, aggressive and guarding dogs. It can be done, it is done by GSDR volunteers up and down the country and very few of us ever get bitten. Those dogs were sacrificed because they were inconvenient and the RSPCA don't like any dogs that bark (and what are GSDs bred for?).

We've had recent cases where a GSDR rescue place was waiting for a dog but bailiffs called the RSPCA to deal with dogs, and even when they had been informed that we had a space for them and we'd be along to collect them within the day, the dogs are still killed.

If the dog is young, small healthy and cute then it may be safe in the RSPCA, but the minute you're talking about bigger dogs you need to know that you're signing a dog's death certificate the moment you give them to the RSPCA.

I love German Shepherds we were so close to having one before we had Oreo. We even spent half a day at the blue cross with one, and decided that we were not experienced enough to have that size of dog.... yet.

One day! ;)

In regards to the above I thought the RSPCA had a policy of not putting a healthy dog down?

that just isn't true cadac i'm afraid, they even advise people to put their dogs down rather than surrender them to shelters.

Dogs trust has that as their motto i think though.

Yes, that's the Dogs Trust that you're thinking of.

Even the RSPCA's own figures show that they put down 53,000 animals last year, including 3,400 for 'non medical reasons' and that only just over half of the animals that they take in are rehomed.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2254729/RSPCA-destroys-HALF-animals-rescues--thousands-completely-healthy.html

I know it's the Daily Mail and therefore a lot of this article is alarmist, but at least the figures should be relatively accurate.

I cannot stand the RSPCA and would never give them a penny of my money.

If i saw an injured animal, or one being mis treated...its simple.....

Just GOOGLE......for instance.... 'lurcher rescue edinburgh' And a link will come up with people willing to help/take in the dog.

Works with most animals.

Remember, the rspca are a charity and have NO LEGAL POWERS. They are as authorised as mary from down the street for taking yiur dog.

I am not an RSPCA fan, i am sure many "officers" (i use this term with a pinch of salt) join for genuine reason but as a organisation I think there policies have are flawed and animal welfare suffers for it!

It is interesting that the domestic pet community appear to have similar feeling to that of exotic keeping community....

why oh why don't more people neuter their pets?i hear people say we will just let her have one litter only to find rehoming not so easy,if it was law within 10yrs there would be possibly a shortage of dogs/cats which would make people treat animals more responsibly not as a throwaway item.Breeders should have to be expensively licensed and monitored,it could help stop puppy farms,i have rescued cats dogs mostly terriers for 27yrs so i have took in some sorry looking unwanted pets in that time.As for the RSPCA the times i have reported forms of cruelty for nothing to have been done is shocking.Well I've had my rant for now feels good.
