REALLY ENJOYED THE FANTASY RACE TOPIC JUST UP THE STREET OF THE OLDTIMERS.AS A FOLLOW ON WHO IN YOUR OPINION WAS THE BEST OF ALL TIME OVER THE CHAMPIONSHIP 150 YARDS YARD PER POUND.

IN MY OPINION JILL AND DOUG TARPEYS ANOTHER MAID WAS THE BEST.BRILLIANT NOTTINGHAM BLOODLINES OF THE MAIDS.FANTASTIC SPECIMEN OF 24LBS BITCH.WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GIVE HER A START.FANTASTICALLY CONSISTENT FOR OVER TWO YEARS.TOOK ON ALL OPPOSITION EVERY WEEK.EARLY PACE AND AN ALMOST UNCANNY TRAPPING ABILITY.SHE WAS JUST A JOY TO WATCH POETRY IN MOTION.WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE HER AT HOME FOR A PERIOD AND SHE HAD A LOVERLY GENTLE FRIENDLY NATURE EVEN LIKING BUGSY THE CAT.

Have 2 agrea she was ahell of abitch seen her do faster times than the 32 lb scratch race

id say maizee mu is up there with the best surely?mochara as well anothert good one. theres so many good yds per 1bs about @ the mo imo

been so many class animals too many for me to pick one :)

Thats a hard one i've whittled my list down to about 10 but finding it hard to cross off names now, as they are all brill in their own rights and best at the time they were running :) agree brill topics and really makes you think :)

I've loved reading the fantasy race topic too, just wish i'd been around to see,the dogs mentioned. In the short time i've been racing,i've witnessed some class animals race. Now comes my question. After watching athletics and seeing the progression of times over the 100mtrs,over the last think it was 10 years. How much more speed have whippets found compared to years ago?Can some of you who have been around much longer, remember some of the times, that the dogs mentioned did, compared to the times now?Hope you don't mind me adding it to your topic Rob :)

Wouldnt like to say as there have been that many good dogs over the years, but one that stands out for me is Mo Evil, who at 32lb was a supreme racing champion over 150yds. I dont think this will ever be achieved again by a 32lb dog.

I think it is impossible to compare them as they were all good in their day.

very tough there are so many, when i think i have my top 5 i think of something else,so will wait a bit before i post.

answer to karen's question when i started in 1973 if you had a dog that broke 9 seconds you had a flying machine, and that was for a 32lber

Cheers John  Everybody says, that dogs running today are much faster I reckon on about 3/4 of a second in 26 years.Think that shows how good the dogs were, back then

I Fully Agree another maid was the fastest whippet ever to grace a track. She had amazing speed.

Mo Evil is one on my list for same reason John, fantastic achievement, i have to say though one of my hopes is that that really special 32lber comes along again and does it again at yd/lb 150, just to say if they are good enough they can :clown:

I know all you people are going to say NEVER ;) but its something to hold on to it has been done so 'never say never' ;)

I always find myself shouting for the 16lbers to hang on and the big boys/girls to beat that yardage - maybe i just like to see the outsiders win :)
