Got up this morning and Leon looks like he's been crossed with a Bulldog :b his muzzle is really swollen  its not hurting him and he's eating and is his usual stupid self :teehee:

I'm sure someone on here had something very similar happen and it used to happen at the same time every year, not sure but it might have been one of Alfyn's dogs but I could be wrong :b

Just wondered if it was the same time of year ? I'll post a pic of him later but I'm late for work already (w00t)

Cheers

Steve

ive seen swollen muzzles with bee/wasp stings

We had that just last week with a poor wee thing looking like a bulldog.

The funny thing is that the swelling came up overnight! I noticed a slightly swollen eyelid last thing at bed-time and checked on the dogs about 2am in case her breathing was affected and found her muzzle all swollen. By morning her whole face was puffy. She was in no discomfort at all and her usual perky self all the time!

I have no idea what caused it. There was no sign of a bite or sting! There are no new plants (pollen) in the garden that I'm aware of. It could have been a sting though because all the dogs had spent the previous day in the garden.

I decided to wait until lunchtime then call the vet if the swelling hadn't started to go down, to get an antihistamine but it was starting to go down so I just waited. By early evening all the swelling had gone.

I think it must have been a bee. They've just started appearing again and the dogs do play with them (silly idiots   )

(Now that I remember; my old whippie who died last year was very allergic to stings and when she was a baby we had to rush her to the vet because she was having breathing difficulties after being stung. She became phobic about 'buzzy' things and used to run and hide. I remember her face being like a duvet several times many years ago. She did once disturb a wasp's nest and was stung all over and became covered in huge lumps - she was on medication for days.)

Ninny had it twice last years with bee stings never had it with the older dogs I think they learn not to stick there noise on bees and wasps as they get older hopefully. i carry periton with us all the time now though just incase as the sooner its given the less it seams to swell

Hi Steve

Just a thought (and sorry if this is way off the mark! :) ) but has Leon been playing with any tuggy-type toys? My dog Wilf got a bit over-enthusiastic trying to 'kill' a ball on a rope toy and shook it loads, and ended up with very swollen chops for about a day.

Best wishes,

Emma

Wasp or bee is the likely cause, here are pics of my Claudia after she caught herself a wasp, in one stage she could hardly open her eyes, but I only thought of taking pictures when I saw she the swelling is coming down
