I had a knock on the door 3 nights ago to say that my rabbit was loose in the front garden and had hopped under the car, I explained that i didnt own a rabbit and please could the chap be careful as i have a whippet and an italian greyhound that would kill it, i even offered to get the chap to a cage as i have 1 spare, we then couldnt catch it and rather then scare the bunny anymore left it to calm down. put the feelers out to see whose bunny it was and no feedback as yet, the twist to the story is , the rabbit has now taken up residence in the back garden with the dogs! merrily hopped under the fence and enjoys chudleys puppy food and is quite happy in the kennel with the dogs and most put out that it has to stay out of the house when the dogs come in at night! so i ask you all why me?! i must have the soppiest two dogs in the world! so cute tho! really quite proud of them, any of you got any strange tales like that, oh and if any of you wish to have a rabbit happy with dogs them message me please as my menagrie is growing again!

Heres an old photo of mine Tanya. I have 9 rabbits at the moment.

I hand reared a jersey x calf from 12 hrs old and after almost a year he still hadnt met another cow, then a farmer put some in the field op where norman and the horses were and hhe almost had a heart attack ! everytime the mood at him he hid behind me! how half a ton of prime beef thought he could hide behind my great big 8 stone weight im really not quite sure! I hand reared piglets too and they also had identity issues, i must admit i think very carefully on how involved i get when hand rearing because of the problems that come with it. My uncle and i have hand reared his filly from birth this year and even though i told him to be very firm with her he was soft on her and now he has a very naughty girl on his hands who is afraid of nothing and jumps out of anywhere to find her people, i have gross fears for her as she is getting a big girl and will throw herself around as she never gets scolded as a mother would. very pretty girl thou, its so hard finding the correct balance when you have all these poor little mite feelings running around!

i can just picture it  poor little calf! one in the eye for those saying nature over nurture

is the filly paddocked with other horses? if not, it might be an idea. theyd teach her 'herd' manners, because there is no way the dominant horse would allow a young upstart to throw her weight about :D

I have hand reared foals before and ive told my uncle this on many occassions, i even lent my elderly shetland gelding to him and he was returned for being too hard on her! I really cant seem to get it through to him the importance of other equine interaction and discipline in a herd format. sadly he has got a big softy attack which will not help her in any way shape or form. She is now kicking out when things dont suit her, i hope he realises soon. thank you for the jersey pics they are the supreme breed of of cow i feel and are outstanding as a house cow. aint animals just the sunshine on our lives. where would we be without them? I would have a tidy house, plenty of spare hours, more money , hang on thou, id be bored rich and miserable! I think il stick with the stinkers!

:( she's going to really hurt someone :( i'm not wishing your uncle ill, but what if he dies? if she gets bought, which if she is pretty is very likely, the new owners wont be aware of her 'quirks' :( i've seen the results of horse kicks, and the thought of a childs head being the recipient.... :x filly NEEDS to be put in place now, its a cruel to be kind situation :( bad horses come to very bad ends :(

at the very least, your uncle should realise she needs to spend time with her own kind.

yep, give me animals and poverty over a sterile, lonely home

I agree she or some person will get hurt and i dont think it is fair, i found out 1st hand what happens when no equine discipline is in place! my vet warned me what a huge task i was taking on and had many chats with me and it wasnt until i was almost kicked square in the face did i finally listen! and that was a shetland! I have been involving myself when he isnt there, i go and feed her for him and i have got her halter broke but there is only so much i can do? He would like me to show her this year in youngstock classes so my next tactic is to take her to my yard just down the road from him and my little sec b broodmare will hopefully help me with her. Not so long back a friend asked for some help rearing an orphan event horse foal and due to lack of discipline it was shot at the tender age of 4 simply because its behaviour was so dangerous! I felt so bad that happened coz being kind ended up the cruellest trick of all. The strangest thing is with my unc is that my grandfather his father was a horse dealer and we have all grown up watching them come and go, some many years ago even going of for meat and ive always been the softy of the family to which ive had much ribbing over the years, he has been so hard on some horses but with her ive seen swaet and many tears, he fed her through the night and never ever fed any of his kids in the night or day for that matter! Yet with lady he is putty in her hooves! These men aint so hard after all, animals break down the hardest walls
