What sort of tempararures will I be having to put up with at the [SIZE=14pt]TAMMSVIK Show !!![/SIZE]
Not long to go now !!! :cheers:

It's summer in here, so you can expect either sunshine or rain. Now it has been raining in Finland and Sweden for many days, but the temperature has been around +10-+20 decrees celsius here. Usually in July it has been hot, around +20-+30 decrees during the day, but it gets colder at night.

So remember to take your bikinis and your raincoat with you. :lol:

I'm with Zolan on this one. Why don't you go for a walk when it is raining Jax??? Don't you want to get wet??? You could always wear a coat, the same as your Whippets.

:sweating: If you need to wear a coat, then your single coated whippet who is just walking or standing around may need a coat. They don't have the second layer of fur for insulation which other breeds have. Neither do they have the the insulation which derrives from a fat layer - which again, other breeds have. If you never use coats, then that's fine, but if you live in a centrally heated house and kennel your dogs within the house and not in outside kennels, then many owners feel the need to provide coats in inclement weather. If you are racing the dog in cold weather, surely you keep the mucsles of the dog warm when waiting at the traps with the use of a coat? How else do you prevent torn muscles?

Most of my dogs would take one look at the rain and start going backwards into the house. Particularly the deerhound! :b Not quite sure what sort of climate he was designed to live in. :- " I've a very small porch and standing there with a bunch of once excited dogs who leapt out of the house in glee at going for a walk only for most of them to reverse suddenly is rather .................... chaotic. Mouse of course is too young to know the misery of getting wet (quote from his dad) and is still leaping around.

When caught in the rain whilst out on a walk one of mine almost loses the use of his legs and has to be pulled along. Positively hates water does Bean.

Anyway at least it saves me from having to take them for a walk in the rain.

Mouse and Fern don't wear coats. Fern 'cause she has never needed to and Mouse because well he's Mouse and doesn't do coats (he eats them <sigh>). Oh and Tally doesn't wear coats either.

YES, YES, YES .............. EXACTLY. You don't even need to be racing them, any free running exercise and they need to be warmed up. I have a Whippet with a bad back and he needs to be kept warm especially on colder days or at least limbered up before he is free-run.

Alfie has a coat, in the Winter he wore it walking to and from the fields but we took it off when he was free-running cos he didn't like running with his coat on

I have also stuck it on him when it's raining, even in the Summer, and I haven't heard any complaints from him :- "

50p must be an exception to the rule regards the rain! He goes and sits in the basket down the garden in the rain and wonders why no one will come out and play with him. :blink: The others just look at him thinking "stupid dog".

With regards the coats issue I suppose it is every one to thier own and we will have to agree to disagree. We all try and do the best for our dogs and have our own opinions of what is best AND IMO Dogs do not need coats only the ones they were born with.

In countries where the climate is very cold, and not the dogs natural habitat, then this is a different issue.

Zolan - I have never seen any evidence of miners coating thier dogs, pictures etc and I am also from a mining community. Yes I have seen pictures of dogs put inside coats but only to hide the dogs if they were poaching and didnt want the dog to be seen.

Dawn if you are as you say from a mining community you surely do not need any pictures as evidence that miners did wear coats on their dogs. You would have seen it for yourself like I did as a youngster. After a days racing or coursing it was not unusual for miners to carry dogs under their jackets not as you say hiding them but more as sign of affection. Here is an early picture of a miner waiting to weigh his dog before a "rag" race as they were known as you will see the dog is wearing a jacket. This picture was taken from a book I have

I know back in the 60's my grandad & his brother's (both x miners) dogs wore coats when they were racing - think i've still got one of the jackets somewhere.

Um - I've read the whole thread and I didn't see anything getting out of hand until the post where you basically accused Dawn of lying.

Is she not entitiled to a different opinion? I have one of her dogs, she knows I coat her and I know she doens't believe the dogs need coats. It's NOT an issue, it's just an OPINION. She also knows (from a pic on this board) that I have dressed her in funky sparkly hats and scarves. Does she think Savvy doesn't need the coat? Yes. Does she believe that Savvy has a good home and is happy anyway, coat and all? Yes.

So what's YOUR problem?
