Suppose the one word answer to that is rehydration,which is why I wouldn't normally use them as I believe the best thing for rehydration is water.I know some would say that they use electrolytes to stop the dog cramping up after racing,but I believe a fit dog with a correct diet,shouldn't normally cramp up (I'll proberbly get shot in the foot for saying that lol)

i use a local firm,hyperdrug.

there own mix( recovery salts).has sodium,potassium,oil,protein,ash. in a powder. 5ml to 4 pints ish. loads cheaper than recharge at £20 a bottle :thumbsup:

works ok.

anybody used them 500ml bottles chicken flavoured rehydration drink,would these be banned???????

i use to put back fluids after travel/race cannot see why you shouldnt just help prevent dehydration.

greyhoung rules (w00t) you shouldnt apply rub before racing (w00t) why (w00t) ,poor dogs some kenneled 4 hours will be stiff,funny rules or what.

I disagree. I don't give electrolytes for rehydration though.

I believe they are beneficial to racing non ped Whippets and some greyhounds as well.

I've read the papers that question the merits of electrolytes to combat lactic acid build up but found no evidence disputing they're use for our dogs.

Each to their own.

ive been to the greyhound derby loads of times at wimbeldon and other big races, you can see the trainers giving the dogs a drink after the race in the paddock and it always as electolytes in it i read the story in the racing post as well, but it didnt say why they where not to be used. i use them after the dog runs and always have and always will and for the gbgb rules of not letting a dog to be rubbed down before a race with linement is beonder me

THINK YOUR SPOT ON THERE KARREN REGARDING MORE RUNS BUT DO THINK IN NON PED RACING WITH DOGS HAVING 2 TO 3/4 RUNS IN ONE DAY YOU HAVE TO PUT SOMETHING BACK INTO THEM

Some rubbing oils come up on drug test that's why greyhounds don't get rubbed down before a race :thumbsup:

Graham, I doubt very much that'll you find an explanation from the GBGB as to why they're not allowed in the paddock.

What's important to know is that you are allowed to use them post racing which is when they should be used.
