I took William and Owen out road walking this afternoon and went a different route than normal part of which involved going down a narrow path alongside some allotments.

Walking towards us was a group of adults with what looked like a very unfriendly looking labrador cross being held very tightly by a big man so I stood to the side in the gateway to the allotments to allow them to pass. At the back of the group was a woman with a cocker spaniel and as she past us she said

'Its a good job she moved they are killer dogs and it'll see my dog think its on the track and chase it and kill it'

Needless to say this got my back up  I stopped and turned round and said

'He's never been on a track and certainly wouldn't chase your dog as he is on his lead and hadn't even glanced at it'

Normally this wouldn't bother me but at ringcraft last night he was playing with a tiny chihuhua(sp) and I think if he was a kiler dog he'd have most definately eaten it seing as it was smaller than most rabbits

Why do people just asume that because he's a greyhound he's been racing and will chase anything that moves I know its probably part of owning the breed but why do they have to jump to conclusions

Good lord...now even greys are being given a bad name? William a killer dog? Hes the biggest pet you could meet...such a big softie...people like that make me soooo angry

That doesn't surprise me- this afternoon I met a woman on the meadow who was scared of ESME (w00t) She was screaming get her away from me and kicking out at her while clinging to her husband. Esme was only walking past.

some people have no common sense whatsoever! ignorant people like that, that react with fear (unwarranted), that make such sweeping statements, that dismiss entire breeds without personal experience.......these are the people that put pressure to get breeds restricted, leading to being banned :(

helen, william is a gorgeous boy :huggles:

Stupid woman. William is gorgeous  . For some reason quite a lot of people think greyhounds are aggressive etc (possibly cos some are muzzled and some have raced), some people in the park today (well yesterday now I suppose) said to me"do they bite?" because their dog wanted to say hello - I guess that's sensible rather than just yanking the dog away or letting it come up to you if you're not ready for it.

But honestly, some people are just so stupid about dogs.

Because they are the type of people who don't engage brain before putting mouth in gear, that's why!!!! :D and sometimes, jumping to conclusions is the only exercise some people get!

Years ago, I had a rescue giant schnauzer, a lovely dog who sadly we didn't have long because he died from auto immune disease ... anyway one sunny evening, I was walking my lovely gentle giant and a little old lady came into view with a yorkie ... she spotted my big lad and picked her yorkie up and hurried across the road.

I sooo desperately wanted to be able to pick my giant up and carry him away from the yorkie too, for the laugh! honestly, you have to smile ... otherwise you could scream ... little did she know, my big boy was probably more nervous of her dog than hers was of mine (he'd not been socialised much before we got him) :D :D

What I think is hilarious is when you are walking past these nice little old ladies and their dog is bitting at your ankles and she looks at you and says "can you control that dog of yours?!" I just kinda look at them blankly and keep walking. Gill's right...if you didnt laugh...you would scream (w00t)

Joshie has been attacked by two Mini Dachshunds, luckily he had he coat on and it was only that that got torn rather than him.She just called out "They are only playing!" If that was playing then I wouldn't want to see them in an aggressive mood.

Have also had the Akitas attacked, once by a Toy Poodle :b who was hanging off his lip, he jumped over the other Akita we had to get away and the Poodle fell off. The other time a Golden Retriever flew at his throat grabbed on, the owner told me to control my aggressive dog and that he shouldn't be at the show with

a temperament like that. I said that it was her dog with it's mouth round mine dogs throat and someone else who had Labradors started on her, as her dog had gone for his earlier and he had the same mouthful. Her Goldie was only 9 months old and it was not playing, it meant it.

ive had someone accuse me of mis-treating my grey cause of her ability to lose weight on a walk !!

I kid you not...

you can take her out with flab and by the end of it after blistering about after the ball the fat has gone and all her muscles are up and she looks thin...

the metabolism of a greyhound is amazing....

people do misunderstand them though....

I tend to stay away from small dogs with my boys because I don't trust them (the small dogs that is), they have been attacked by staffies before.

Mostly where I live people know them now so it's okay, the people with dodgy dogs stay away from us - or I cross the road.

Lots of people know who the boys are and come up and talk to us, I still get the odd person saying they are too skinny, but most people seem to understand now.

They've got quite a big fan club, I see two old ladies in the village most days and they always come up for cuddles. Even my decorator's wife has had people stop and ask her about them!!! (w00t)

Most people in our area know Wiliam too but as we are off work for easter we went for a walk earlier in the afternoon than normal and these people were strangers. The people who we normally met all know us even the children come to say helo and know his name.

If the children are at the park when he goes there for a run they love to play hide and seek with him.

People are very pass remarkable and it's just lack of education and ignorance

next time someone mentions your skinny dog just ask them if they've ever seen Bernard Manning win the 100 m sprint ! (w00t)

I hate how people have such stereotypical views of particular breeds of dogs! Do people not realise that it is lack of training which makes a dog visious(sp) and not a particular breed?

i no that if i dog comes from aggressive parents that it is more likely to be agressive but as long as a dog has proper training a dog of any breed whether its a rotwiler or a terrier or whatever they can get on fine with other dogs and humans!

We were out walking the other day molly was off her lead and she went running up2 a bull terrier on a extandable lead the dog didnt go for her or anything yet my dad called her back saying it would rip her to shread, the owners could hear him because they were not very far away but they didnt say anything.

When i asked why he said it he said because thats what bull terriers are like!! yet it was molly who ran towards the dog. But when 2 collies came bounding at her the other week he did not say anything!

It is so unfair agaist the dog to be judged due to breeded as the charasteristist from one dog to another can vary so much!
