 This happened a couple of days agobut I never gave it a thought until someone at the park said a similar thing

I decided to take William out to Stoke the other day .We walked into Stoke and to the market and the small car boot sale they have there . Just before reaching the market we passed a woman with about 5 chidren as we went passed them, I think she was stuggling with so many kids, the woman looked up and said to the kids.....

Oh look have you seen the women with the pony!!!

Ijust looked back and smiled and she said...

Sorry it's just a big dog.

I never gave it another thought and we carried on with our walk .Then 2 days ago i took William and Owen (whippet) to the local park and a child said

That dog's more like a pony

I know he's a big lad and a lot bigger than the greyhounds that most people recognise I also know someone who has a shetland pony that is smaller than him but you would have thought people could tell the difference between a dog and a pony. I'm now thinking of putting a sighn on his head saying

Yes I'm a dog

I think Rufus the Pharaoh could do with a sign sometimes too. A few times walking through town kids have asked their parents "what is it?" within earshot. On the way to the vets last month a small girl asked me "is it a dog?". No idea what else she thought he might be

When my GWP was in need of stripping, he resembled a sheep!!!!

I told the man in the queue behind me at the bank that Zoomie, the Italian Greyhound, was a baby kangaroo.

Well he did ask..... and when you think about it......... :- "

i get fed up of the statements folk make about my shibas.is it a fox?wolf?husky?when i say no its a japanese shiba inu the invariable reply is 'a what?'

 I think they make the mistake with a 'pony' due to the way these dogs 'trot' ( or is it just ours ?)

we're getting used to the comments now, 'look at that skinny dog, what happened to it ?' 'you're not very cuddly ' they've never had a cuddle on the sofa from a roasting whippet - better than any hot water bottle any day :huggles:

When my Italian greyhound comes on a walk with my whippets people ALWAYS accuse me of having a puppy out that's too young! It takes ages for the penny to drop that she's a different breed from a whippet!

when i used to take the manchester terriers out with my dobermanns folk would say 'oh look a baby dobermann ,when will it get its tail cut off?' (w00t)

Guilty as charged Kris, the first time I saw a Shiba Inu I thought it was a Norwegian Buhund.

I know the difference now , I think!!

Past some strangers the other day on my walk and overheard the lady say - Aww lovely greyhounds - I couldnt help correct her and say 'No WHIPPETS actually' :- " so annoying

The mind boggles... a pony?

However I am used to comments about my deerhound, smile gets a bit weak with the 'oh, you could put a saddle on that'...'bet that takes some feeding'...'nice wolfhound'...would'nt mind but she is not a big deerhound, she eats very little, and when I inform them she is a deerhound - they look at me like I made the breed name up...oh, and she is always a boy! Regardless of how many times I say SHE! Even to the point of having a ridiculous exchanges with a park-keepers and various passers by in the street...who shout 'hope your going to pick that up' when she's squatting having a wee, as I always reply 'no, she's too heavy to pick up'

Somebody once mistook my Afghan for a pony. People are weird, I once had a a doctor living next to us, he bought two pups and told me they are bitches. I pointed out to him they both had penis and balls and he still did not believe me. (w00t) (w00t) (w00t) He went awy shaking his head, but soon after I noticed they do not call them Molly and Sally anymore, but Spike and Ron. :D

Our whippets are big but they are whippets and are usually referred to as the big whippets or small greyhounds, feel like getting their pedigreee out to prove the point.

Another thing I get asked is if I take William and any of the whippets out together I often get asked

is that mother and babies? the answer is I hope not it's a male then it's well is he the dad then?

I did once at Roaie and Blaze's first show get asked if they were Italian greyhounds and got told they were to small to be whippets. Blaze at 6 months was only slightly smaller than his mother although Rosie was still only tiny . They were with uncle Owen who is quite well built and did tend to make them look small
