Does anybody have any evidence or thoughts or websites, on whether you should change feeding times, and how much you feed them, of dogs in the winter to accomodate the fact (or at least I think it is) that they use up their food stores quicker cos it's colder. Ours are kenneled outside at night and come in the house for some of the day, but not all.

Hiya Chris

My 2 (stella and boo) are out side too and i feed them up in winter....abit more food and anything left over from our tea, plus they get a warm drink of milk before they go to bed (puppy milk since having cleo) abit of extra goodness eh haha

And usually they get fed at about 5.30 but since its getting darker they let me know when they are ready which is now around half 3.. 4 o clock...

Stella's back is now as big as molly's and im sure if Boo runs over the winter she'll defo be 32lb haha might even be 33lb if im not careful but i dont mind the extra fat helps keep them warm!

Agree with Mr Fletcher.I too have always addes suet to their grub in the winter.A piece about the size of a wall nutt,is quite suficent,and does their coat a world of good.

hi chris all mine are kenneld out i up the dry food abit and the meat beef a good bit of fat onit if itis chicken i put in lamb breast and they have veg oil in winter i also cut the bone down in winter do not like it laying around in there gut over night

Thanks for replies, ours get breakfast then fed at about 3 ish, but must admit they always seem hungry.....well more that usual, about 7/8ish. Will try the suet :thumbsup: and they get meat (with lites in........not sure what people think about that?) and veg stuff will up that a bit too.

Think will try the supper thing too, rob thinks I'm mollycoddling them..............I think he's just mean.............he eats all day :lol:

the recaers dont get more food in the winter as they donet race so use less callories so that seams to balance out but my non racers all need extra my old greyhouns need a lot more so age seams to have somthing to do with it. the greyhounds have a good 1/3 more food a day when its cold and yet do the same exercies as through the summer. and i know by may if i donet satrt cutting there food bag they get proper fattys. wish i could loeas whighet in the cold if it worked i would move to iceland :lol:
