I know a few of you were following the tale of Woody and Bobby, a pair of elderly whippets at Dog's Trust, Salisbury.

I am now in touch with their new owner on facebook so I can see how they are doing which is lovely. Their new owner might be coming on here (she already has two beddy whippets), so I hope I didn't steal her thunder but just thought I'd put this one pic on so you can see for yourselves how lucky these dogs are.

Thats just brilliant, they've been on my mind loads this little geriactric pair.

Thank you so much for taking them on from wwhippet lovers everywhere, How are they both, one had a bad back didn't it?

They look so contented, what a star you are pointydogs!!!

Woody was thought to have a slipped disc, as he is very wobbly on his feet and finds getting about quite difficult. We have further investigated this problem with a blood test the results of this came back today and show a thyroid abnormality - there is medication for this which might make him better. He has an his first appointment my own vet on monday afternoon, so hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of it then and get him bouncing about again

I'm sure they'll just be so much better in a comfy home with tlc and a sofa :D

Hi Pointydogs and welcome to K9. :)

It so lovely to hear that Woody and Bobby found their forever home (with a sofa) and can enjoy their twilight years. Judging by the photos they have settled in very well.

Welcome to K9 :D :D

May I say how lovely to see the boys in their new home ....... they look so happy now

Well done for taking them in and giving them the comfort and security they deserve for the rest of their lives :huggles: :huggles:

They are gorgeous, well done for giving them a retirement of luxury :D

How sad they ended up in kennels at their time of life and how great that you've given them a home. I love happy

endings   Do you know how old they are?

I think their age was given as 11 at Dog's Trust but Pointydogs thinks that Bobby might be quite a bit younger.

Their ages were given at 11, and I can believe that about woods as he is very grey around the muzzle. But I really do think Bobs is much much younger as he plays with the other dogs and has become really interested in toys - the dogs trust said he never played it was even written on his information sheet, he's very sleek and has not even a touch of grey. I believe they may even be father and son, not brothers like suggested but they may not even be related at all their face shapes and body colour are completely different. I wish I knew what had happened to them? They obviously have been beloved pets at some point as they know all about sofas, beds, toileting outside, treats and bin raiding, I think maybe an old lady or couple who passed away - then a relative felt obliged to take them but didn't really want them. The dogs trust told me their last owner had had them for 2 years before giving them in and they'd been living in an outhouse. They were really skinny especially woody, I'm trying my best to feed them up but its a long slow process, I hate that people might think it me thats neglected them when they see them looking so thin.

Sorry just realised i'm going on a bit.....

I know what you mean. My whippet X,Tilly, was very poorly at one stage and extremely thin despite loads of tlc. I was walking back to my car with her after a visit to the vet when a couple passed me and he remarked loudly that the dog was emaciated. I got in my car and burst out crying but he was right, Tilly looked skeletal. If people looked or said anything I just told the truth and said we were doing everything we could to get her well. Bobs and Woods will start to look wonderful and act differently once they've they've been living inside, feeding well and, just as importantly, being loved. At least two years living outside for a whippet must have been hard going, especially through the winters and for Woody being older. Good luck with your lovely boys and keep us posted.

Thank you, and everyone for all fantstic comments, it nice to be amongst people who understand :)
