thanks guys, waiting for vet to ring me,Woody is going to the vets tonight as he isn't improving.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the little man :luck: and sending lots of gentle hugs for him xxx

Thanks guys, Woody has been sedated and he is on the sofa with eyes like saucers, drooling profusely, we have to keep him as quiet as possible( not exactly difficult).

The vet isn't convinced it is just his muscles as his head is pulling the wrong way sooo we have one week for him to remain on pain killers with no exercise,if no improvement in a week(we have to give it a bit of time due to his age)he will have an x ray of his neck BUT if it is his spine causing the problem he will have to be pts as both the vet and I do not think it is fair to put Woody through orthopaedic surgery at his age and in his condition.

so fingers crossed that the little fella recovers quickly. You know it's kind of strange but if he goes, he has had a smashing life with us and he's lived to be old and I'm sad and yet happy to let him go if that's what he needs x

At least we can make the right choice for our 4 legged family ,and not let them suffer unneccisarily( sp)

The last thing any of us want to do it to let them suffer needless pain.I know you will do what is best for Woody

Thinking of you all at this difficult time

Jackie

Just to let you all know,Woody has taken a turn for the worst and although his neck seems better, he is finding it very hard to stay on his feet, his back end is violently shaking and if he stands still he crumples after thirty seconds, he won't eat and he is struggling badly to squat and poo cos of his back legs folding.

texted the vet who saw him last night and just waiting for advice, think we're near the end tho.

:( so sorry to here this news my thoughts are with you at this time :huggles: :luck:

Poor Woody , he does't sound too good .

Hugs to you both :huggles:

ok Woody survived the night but it has been very stressful, he is walking about ok but shaky, he is however panting loads and keeps wanting to go down the garden but then just standing there.

He seems to be peeing fine but is doing tiny rabbit poo sized poo....anyway one of the lovely nurses at my practise is going home in half an hour to collect her laptop and she is picking me and Woody up on the way back to the surgery. Otherwise we have to wait until later for appointment. she offered and I jumped at the chance to have him checked over again....think we need to take blood off him and see if something shows up.

Also since he didn't eat yesterday, he ate his normal breakfast today and had half a steak and kidney pie earlier.

His temperature is normal but he is thirsty today having drunk little yesterday..........really not certain I will be bringing him home later

It must be awful for you, but Woody must come first. Its best to let him go with dignity than drag it out. I hope I will be brave when I have to make the same choice. Im sure you will do your best for him. All the best. xxx

Very sorry to hear that he is struggling. Lots of gentle hugs to you both :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

ok we're back from the vets and Woody is still with us....basically the vertebrae at the base of his neck are fusing together and they are currently rubbing against each other...once they have fused he must avoid heavy knocks or any falls otherwise he will break his neck. he also probably has the beginnings of a stomach ulcer.

we have pain relief, antepsin, tagamet and also he is on Vivitonin as well just as a trial. He is still in a great deal of pain but definitely slightly improved from yesterday.. his bloods showed lipase is raised which could be some inflammation of his pancreas as well...but all in all considering we didn't think he was coming home, not too bad.

he won't eat again tonight but he did eat his breakfast so small steps are ok with me, I've bought him a roast chicken for tomorrow.

we don't know how long he will be with us, it all depends upon how his neck goes and how much pain and how prolonged the pain is.... but for now he is asleep in a somewhat twisted heap in his bed.

I do hope the new drug regime will help Woody ....... poor little chap must feel so miserable :(

Sending lots of love and kisses for him xxxx

Poor Woody :( sending lots of positive vibes and loads of hugs and kisses his way :huggles: :huggles: :luck: :luck:

Thanks, we've had a rough night,Woody has been in continuous pain and even after a full dose of pain killer at four am, he has had major muscle spasms in his neck which have thrown him ont the floor twice.

As a result of this I am calling the vet at eight and having Woody put to sleep.
