Went ferreting on sunday on some new permission, with the proviso that the person who got me the land came with me, and brought her bull-x whippet. It had never been ferreting before, but had chased rabbits while out on walks.
Has the dog ever seen ferrets before, i asked. 'No, byt im sure she will be fine' came the reply. Im always wary of other peoples dogs, so i asked the lady owner to take a firm grip of her now apparantly unruly lurcher.
To cut a long story short, in the mele' that ensues during rabbits bolting and ferrets coming out of holes looking for their bolted bunnies, this bull cross grabbed my young hob round its middle. I grabbed the dog and twisted the skin on its neck untill it let my hob go. Do they ever scream and smell! Anyway, alls well that ends well, the ferret is bruised but ok. The friend was very appologetic, and wants to come ferreting again. Do i
a. Tell her to leave the dog at home
b.Tell her to bring the dog and muzzle it untill it learns ferrets are there to provide bunnies to chase
or c. give up some very rabbity permission and tactfully say thanks but no thanks?
