took molly out for a walk just on the feild (on her lead)she did a nice fairly firm poo, then we went walking on a path where there were 2 terriers when there owner saw us he put them on a lead and walked past molly is petrified of other dogs so she went a bit skitsey for a few seconds then all was fine a few minutes late she did another poo which was a bit runny.

About 10 minutes later 2 men came walking to dogs (1 rotwiler and 1 what looked like a rotwiler cross) the had no leads but both men were carrying quite big sticks as i got closer one of the men saw me and shouted they wont hurt you they are only puppies (they looked pretty old puppies as they were big) i couldnt avoid them as there is a fence on one side and a brook on the other so as i got closer one of the dogs (the cross) came up2 molly he didnt growl, bark, bite or anything but molly went major skitsey trying to get away from them one of the men calle dthe dog back once (the dog totally ignored him) and i was affraid molly would slip her collar she was pullking so much so i picked her put.

She continued going skitsey even after i picked her up but i didnt want ot put her down because the dog was still there (she head butted my face ive got a nice bruse now!lol) the man finally got the dog to walk on by poking him with a stick!

we continued our walk but she was very nervous kept looking behind her untill be got onto a street then she kept pulling forward.

when we were nearly home we cut across the feild and she did 5 poos in 3 minutes each smaller and more runny than the other. :(

when we come in she finished her food off :)

do you think that her poos went funny because she was scared/nervous or is it likely to be a upset stomach?

please help im realy quite worried plus im still shaking even though nothing happened it realy shook me up seeing her so petrified! I thought she wasgoing to slip her collar and go ive never seen her like it before!

Hiya,I wouldnt be worried as it sounds very much as if she was scared. One of the greyhounds I walk does the same thing when he is scared.Hope you both feel better soon  If her poo is normal later then im sure she will be fine.

Sounds like it is nerves but I would be more worried about her being so scared of other dogs than about her runny poos!!!

How old is she and what socialisation have you done with her? I would also ensure you have a collar that she cannot slip until you can get her over her frightened behaviour.

I woudnd worry about the poos too much as this was almost certainly a nervous reaction to the situation at the time. You can confirm this for yourself by watching her next poo at home away from any stress althought it sounds as tho you might have to wait for a while! She obviously emptied her self out enough to be sufficiently hungry when she got home1 :) Im sure as you kno your main prob with her is her reaction to other dogs. Is there any reason you can think of why she reacts this way? It sounds as tho to get anywhere you need to get back to basics with Molly although this will take time and patience as fear will be harder to overcome than basic disobedience. Have you got anyone who has a got a calm and senssible dog that she could meet up with in a safe situation? Check out your local classes & see if there are any small enough to suit her. Beware of any classes that are too large or deal with the real tearaways as this might stress her even further. Hope you get on ok as exercise is a necessity & should be a pleasurable experience for you both. In my opinion a stressed owner always makes for a stressed pet and if you are always expecting something bad to happen it invariably does. The very best of luck :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

she is 16 months but we have only had her 3 before we hade her we went ot vist her home she was one of about 7 whippets so she is use to other whippets but she seemed to be bullied but all the others, this is why her previous owners no longer wanted her. She kept getting bitten and sat on (she has still got a wound on her ear which was done by the other whippets) i dont know if she was socialised with other breeds and no body i know has a dog for me to socialise her with. :(

i would realy like her to be able to get along and play with other dogs as i would like in the future to get her a companion but at the moment i dont think it would be fair on her, she is alot more confident than she was but compared to the other whippets i have seen she is very shy and not confident and im worried another whippet would make her worse and would bully her like she was in her previous home and i dont want that. :b

She is ok sometimes with smaller dogs and fine when she is off the lead can run off. :)

her collar does fit her properly and cant be pulled off realy but i have loosened ot slightly because it is rubbing a bald patch under her throat so i was worried just incase it come off and i though picking her up would calm her down (i was wrong) but i didnt like seeing her so scared! :(

I wouldn't worry about the pooing- it does just sound like nerves.

However, like Dessie, I would worry a lot more about her nervousness. If you worry that much about meeting other dogs she will think that there is a reason to worry herself and get increasingly nerous about meeting dogs.

If you always act calmly and confidently around strange dogs (I know that this can be difficult, but it really is important) she will pick up on this and be calm too. If she is self confident with other dogs then she is much less likely to get hassle from them and you will both enjoy your walks a lot more.

I have had two diffcult rescues, one who was terrified of all people, but especially women and one who was very nervous of other dogs so I do know how difficult it is, but it is worth persevering- there is nothing more satisfying than when a dog bounces happily into a situation that would previously frightened them.

Edited to say- I meant to say good luck :luck: - she'll get there

we usually have realy loverly walks however i am very cautious of other dog especially when they are not on a lead as you can never tell if a dog is going to just have a sniff or is going to try and attack. thanks for the advice

What about finding a really good training class where she could sit in, out of the way, doesn't have to mingle with the other dogs, but she would just be able to sit there? You could take her out if she gets too stressed, this is what my dog trainer lets people do.

A woman brought a really nervous rescue greyhound last year to class, who initially raised the roof every week, she was really scared of other dogs. So the woman just used to come in and sit quietly with her greyhound, out of everyone else's way so no one went close; everyone ignored her and the dog (not to be rude, just not to make the gh feel threatened! :) ). Initially this was just for a few minutes each week. Over time the period spent in class built up and became longer each week, going at the dog's pace, until in the end the gh would actually approach certain dogs and people provided they were non-threatening.

Because there was no pressure put on the gh in anyway, she soon learned to relax and settle down, but people still didn't approach her so she didn't feel threatened.

If you could find a good trainer and class, speak to the trainer and see what they think, also I would recommend you go and sit in by yourself (without your dog) initially, just to make sure you are happy with the methods used - no point going somewhere where more stress is put on you and your dog.

Hope you get your girl sorted in time. Best wishes, Gill

i would recommend some gentle introduvtions with dogs- choose friendly steady dogs that u know, and increase in size slowly.

she will panic if you pick her up as you are restricting her and trapping her, if you come into another situation liek this when you see a dog, act as if nothings wrong and say 'come on' and walk briskly past them with no fuss. you need to be calm and confident to show her she has nothing to be scared of.

but first try the nice introductions :huggles:

same as everyone else says dont worry about the pooing but she realy needs help to tolarat other dogs better caontact as many doggt frends as you can fined and see how has any very carm dogs ones that wont even take notice of her and arragne meetins staring with the other dog in the distance slowly bringing it cloeser but passing as it come cloesre nor srats towards you give Molly a treet when she ignores the dog and above all stary carm yourself she will pick up any nervs you have and it will amplify hers. after time doing this as offtan as you can see if you can fined an outdoor traning class and just go along and watch from a distance with her and again graduly go cloeser it will take time and paciance and she may never want to go off playing with other dogs but if she learns to tolerat them and trust you to pritect her she will be a happer little girle and so will you.

hope everything works out for you we had the same problems with our minnie the greyhound she was like it wath dogs and men and would wet herself with fear.

she now runs to the nearest dog to plat and has done meet and greats at bell vue race track with over 3000 people there and most of the stricking her and the only taime she was upset was whens anyone whent past and didntgive her a chip

I have a dog which sounds just like your Molly. Lenny was 4 months when we got him and he was socialised to other whippets (26 of them!!! yes I know how ridiculous that is - no one can care for that many properly :( ) but not socialised to any other dog. He was also bullied and now reacts in exactly the same way as yours does.

I got in touch with a training centre who advised me NOT to sit in on a training class but to come in and have a one-on-one session. Granted this did cost a lot more but I agreed because whenever he saw another dog he went absolutely beserk.

The sessions I go to involve training with the trainers dog, building up to more, less-well-behaved dogs. It has definately helped but what has helped more is letting my OH half take him out instead of me (I hold the other dogs lead :)) ) I think that because I used to take them out on my own, I lost confidence in being able to control them both, and a lack of confidence on your part can definately affect the dogs behaviour. Have you got a partner who could come with you on walks for a bit of support?

If you want to pm me and talk about this you are welcome to and I will stop waffling and boring anyone else

By the way, Lenny also does the runny poo thing if he gets scared.

I ought to have said, the class the nervous rehomed greyhound came and sat in with, was a very carefully selected class, there were only calm steady dogs in there, no barkers or other anxious dogs!

Whereabouts in England are you? Maybe someone on here is near enough and willing to help you socialise your dog with theirs. :)

I am in staffordshire however i cant travel as i do not drive. her poops are fine now, i took her out today but didnt see anyother dogs however next week i plan on finding out about trainers which are close to me to give it ago. realy hope it works thanks for all the advice wish me luck

Yes if you can find a clas like this that is good. Its just that Lenny was so bad that we sort of had to start from scratch. It is also important that once they had got used to good dogs that they should be able to get used to 'bad' dogs in a controlled environment.

I find it particularly hard because all the dogs near me are either barkers or left off a lead. They may be well trained enough to be off a lead but their owners don't realise that Lenny doesn't see it like that
