Ok so now we may have found a baby beagle boy to add to the family and suddenly this afternoon I'm getting nervous.... :b

I need a good shake please......I'm suddenly thinking what if we get new boy and James hates him....what if newbie hates James....what if they grow up and hate each other and fight......we don't have fights in this house...we've had a couple of minor scraps over food prior to feeding everyone in a different room so they can all eat in peace...apart from that we have never really had aggro......

sound advice needed please...are they likely to fight and hate each other... am i worrying unnecessarily... pup will be only eight weeks at the moment....gimme advice i'm about to bottle it (w00t) ..

This afternoon we both wrote pros and cons of adding a second beagle and came to the conclusion that for James to have a playmate and life companion it would be really good but that for us it would involve some hassle and a fifth dog and all that entails but we still felt it would be good for us as a family because James would have a buddy of a similar age with similar interests ie a scrounger/destruction buddy etc...

Trouble is we only ever had multiple whippets and single dogs of other breeds...never had two beagles before....

help help help.........x

I know nothing about beagles, but there is a beagle brigade on this board, under the Caledonian Whippet Racing Club, as they race beagles there too :teehee: . You could always contact one of them to ask them what it's like to own more than one.

Here's a link to a website and hopefully a picture of three beagels chasing each other round the garden... :- (not that I'm trying to influence your decision you understand ;) )

I think getting cold feet is not unusual, afterall, you're facing potentially 13-15 years of owning said dog, so it's quite a commitment.

Sleep on it, things will seem clearer in the morning, and once you've made some more enquiries after that, you'll feel a bit more certain of what the right decision is.

Difficult decision... :sweating:

Thank you..it's why I posted here...I'm a terrible worrier..i think things through, make a considered decision, then worry like mad that there's something I haven't thought through properly.....

we both said it could be a bloody nightmare or it could be the best thing we ever did for James...beagles are supposed to have low aggression but every dog is an individual...I know where I am with whippets but OH won't get any more whippets until after Badger and Bryn have crossed the bridge because he wants to get a pair of racers then..he said he only wants to keep dogs in pairs...i have told him hell will freeze over before we ever get another Moonpig (w00t)

I have no clue what two beagles would be like together,

apart from the fact it would be double the

when you post pictures of them......

I always worry terribly when adding another dog or pup to my gang . I think it shows that you are a responsible dog owner the fact you realise what a huge commitment it is . If only everyone thought about the whole picture before getting another dog the rescues would not be overflowing as they are now .

Once you get your pup you will be totally in love with it and ready to face whatever problems come along.

Good luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

Thank you for the help, I'm a terrible one for thinking everything through, listing all the pros and cons etc then talking myself out of it...I'd worry if there was nothing to worry about , it's a way of life lol...I'm so cautious its annoying.

Anyway, going to view a tricolour beagle pup on Saturday morning...he's nine weeks old so there is a possibility he will be coming home with me.....eek!

edited to add....I guess i'm cautious because I never want to be one of those people who gets a pup and then takes it back after a few weeks, it's just not my way..but I will repeatedly talk myself out of something until I'm 100% sure it's right both for the dogs involved and for my OH and I as a family.

Much better to think it all through and be 100% sure before you go ahead than rush into it and find you've made a mistake!

Is the pup you are going to see from a breeder? If so I'm sure they will give you all the pros and cons of having two young Beagle boys together, they'll want to be as sure as you are that it's going to work for you and the pup. Beagles are pack dogs, so generally very sociable, I think my main worry would be if two of them together went off on the hunt whether I'd ever get them back

Good luck with the pup :luck:

thank you, yes from a breeder, she sounds like a really nice lady too..she said the pup is really naughty and into everything and everyone has picked all the sensible pups (w00t) ..I am also a little phased by the thought of two dogs disappearing over the horizon so that little scenario will have to be prevented!!!!! (w00t)

The Beagle has landed....................I've named him Bill....pictures will have to wait until tomorrow as he's had a bath and is in his crate having a sleep.

Fantastic , can't wait to see the little guy

Aww sweetie - you sound EXACTLY like me!!! I drive Neil nuts at times because I worry about the littlest things that will probably never happen

I'm sure your family will be great with two beagles.....they ARE a lovely breed and one that I would be tempted by too
