YANA
Yana is an 8 year old ex-racing greyhound girl. Yana has worked very hard for her 8 years, and was used as a breeding female after her racing days were over. Having spent all her life so far in a kennel environment, she is most definitely deserving of a soft sofa to finally retire to.
Yana is a beautiful girl though she needs to put on a bit of weight and condition. She has a black coat that is now sprinkled with grey hairs, and has silvering on her face. She has an adorable expression that only asks for love.
The lovely Yana is a very affectionate hound; in fact she’s a bit of a cuddle monster and just thrives on every drop of fuss given to her. Scratch her chin for a few minutes and you have a devoted friend for life. Yana doesn’t have many requirements to be a very happy girl, just a soft bed, some yummy food and lots and lots of cuddles.
Though Yana has never experienced the comforts of a home environment, we don’t think it’ll take her long to settle in. She is spotless in her kennel and should start to adjust to the home life after the first 10-14 days. It’s heartbreaking to think this lovely lady has never experienced a soft sofa, or the warmth of a fire.
Yana is very well behaved with the other dogs in our kennels, and has also been good with the other dogs she has met out and about, including a small terrier. She is not cat or small furry friendly, but could happily live with another mature dog who won’t be constantly hounding her for play sessions.
Like most greyhounds, Yana will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Yana walks like a feather on the lead and travels good in the car.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
If you think you can offer an older dog a loving home please consider Yana, she truly deserves it.
Yana is currently being kennelled in Co. Kerry, Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting her, she will be fostered in the Norfolk area.
Yana is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Yana, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!
