ZIGGY
Ziggy is a medium sized ex-racing greyhound boy who just turned 3 years old in April. He raced a total of 21 times before being retired from the track to look for his forever sofa. Ziggy has a lovely rich brindle coat that is going to be so gorgeous once he loses all his thick kennel coat.
~ Personality ~
Ziggy is a quiet but relaxed chappie who isn’t fazed by much. He soaks up your attention like a sponge and will stand quiet as a mouse with his eyes closed for as long as you keep scratching his ears. He has beautiful manners and is very gentle and polite in asking for more attention. He is a really sweet boy who just wants to be loved.
~ Other Animals ~
Ziggy is brilliant with the other dogs in our kennels and has never caused an ounce of trouble. He is good at meeting other dogs and is generally a very polite, relaxed hound. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!
~ In the Home ~
Ziggy has not yet been in a home environment but he is guaranteed to absolutely love it once he does! New owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules, but it shouldn’t take this boy too long to settle and relax. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Ziggy is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks very well on the lead and is also a brilliant travelling buddy in the car.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Where Am I? ~
Ziggy is currently in kennels in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Ziggy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhound Connection is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.
If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Ziggy, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
