:( Zoomie was noodling in Grandad's garden yesterday when he came hobbling over to me on three legs.

 To my horror he had a two-inch gash down the back of his pastern, from pad to pad, right down to the bone. :( He was rushed to the vet for an emergency op and he's severed a tendon :( :( :(

The goodish news is that there are four tendons in that part of the leg and the other three are okay. The severed one has been stitched back together so his chances of recovery are good although the vet said tendons don't heal well. The vet is optimistic though and looked after him beautifully - he gave him a very special purple bandage because it's his favourite colour :) . We'll just have to see how he gets on as he heals - he's certainly very sore.

We searched all over the garden where he'd been and the only thing we found was some very sharp ice with blood on it  .

So please beware - ice can be as sharp as knives and can do horrid damage to our wee babies. Even where you least expect it!

He spent all night sleeping off the anaesthetic, snoring and being cuddled (he did manage a little bit of mince for dinner though  )

Zinzin (his bestest ever pal) has been trying to kiss him better... :*

oh no, poor zoomie :(

i hope it heals fast and he feels better soon :huggles:

:huggles: :huggles: :huggles: for you Zoomie

Get well soon

Hope it heals ok and you are soon back in the ring

Ice is lethal a lad I work with fell of his bike when he skidded on ice he is now in hospital awaiting a skin graft on his face

He's still trying not to look but he certainly can't use it (he said his leg nearly fell off during the night and it's now being held on with Superglue :( )

He's now walking in little triangles everywhere on three legs. :huggles:

He's also thinking of getting an eyepatch, a parrot, some pieces of eight and becoming a marauding pirate on the open seas.....

Poor Zoomie! :( :huggles:

I do hope this heals well, my old Solo severed a tendon on broken glass in the park  and the vet said that after the op she had to have total rest for a month and then lead exercise for 3!! But it did work, and when she was never lame on that leg and looked perfectly normal afterwards. :huggles: :huggles:

My dog got injured in the same area of his leg and two ligaments are severed. No damage to bone but he is in a splint so his bandage goes all the way up his leg. He was walking on a bike path when it happened and there was a lot of broken glass in the area so I assume the a broken bottle did the damage. This dog is a 50 lb greyhound cross, not a wee Italian, and his ligament story is on the general discussion area.

I'm glad the rest of Zoomie's tendons are okay and thanks for the warning about ice. We can't avoid all risks however, we all need exercise. I didn't let my healthy dogs off lead this frosty morning and while I was walking with them on the pavement I twice went down on my hands and knees to avert an anticipated slip on the black ice! Who will walk my dogs if I have a bad fall?

Did you get any indication of how long it will take for Zoomie to heal?

Oh No Zoomie, I'm getting the next plane out of Southampton to come and give you a special cuddle and kiss you better. Your mummy has to stand on the step and give a daily bulletin on your condition like they do with all VIP's (Very Important Iggies). Be a brave little soldier. I love you Zoomie

Poor Zoomie, what a very brave boy he is being, at least as a pirate the sea will be liquid and not horrid ice. The girls here send him loving licks and Berry hopes he will bounce back to using four paw drive very soon. :huggles:

OH dear - when I logged on and saw that Zoomie was hurt, I hardly dare look to see what had happened. :( I'm glad he has been fixed with a nice purple bandage and I hope it all heals up nicely.

Sending Zoomie (and you) lots of hugs and healing thoughts

Will be checking for regular bulletins. When does he next go for a dressing change?

8) Zoomie says thank-you for all the good wishes. He's currently gnawing on something nice and chewy and anticipates occupying mummy's lap for a few hours canoodling when he's dispatched the chewy to his tum pot.

He's due to have the dressing changed on Monday but I'm really worried because the vet has used sticking-plaster to hold the bandage to his leg and I'm terrified it's going to take his skin off as it comes off :( :( I have some 'sticky-stuff remover' so I might try that.

Any ideas for getting sticking plaster off delicate skin?

I was going to make him an eye-patch and a wooden stump but he just said he wanted cuddles just now so could I just sit still long enough  I will pass on all cuddles from his friends....

Poor little Zoomie. You can use some stuff called Zoff for getting sticking plaster off delicate skin. Boots should have it. I am sure he will recover well with plenty of rest and TLC.
