Zoomie's Had An Accident

:( mmm think I was a bit ahead of myself thinking Zoomie had made a miraculous recovery.

He had the stitches out yesterday and the vet thought the whole area was still a bit puffy so has put him on a new course of antibiotics (it's raspberry flavoured drops if the smell is anything to go by - he loves them!!!). This was the vet that did the operation and he said it really was a nasty injury :(

He has to stay on the lead for walking and go back to the vet in a months time to see if the toe has settled at all. If not, he'll be referred to the Orthapaedic specialist to see if they can do anything because his toe doesn't touch the ground properly. The specialist is about three hours drive away but has a great reputation so we'll just have to wait and see what he says. Right now the toe is definitely at the wrong angle. So there still is a possiblity he'll need another operation. :huggles: (Thank goodness for insurance!)

Just have to wait and see. Meanwhile the bonkers little manic lunatic says leads are only for "girls blouses" and he wants to run free like the wind. Just as well I'm bigger and heavier than him or he'd pull me over

Oh I'm sorry things aren't quite as straight forward as they seemed - here's hoping for the best possible outcome for Zoomie - and rapidly for the little sweetheart

oh, Poor Zoomie. At least his spirits are high. Does it cause him any pain/discomfort?

Hope it works out okay. :)

well i hope it does settle back into place by itself but if it doesnt then at least youll be able to go to this specialist and see what his opinion is.fingers crossed for zoomie :luck: :luck: :luck:

No, that's the thing - he's not in any pain or discomfort at all!

He uses the foot perfectly normally, doesn't limp, doesn't favour it or anything, and would be quite happy to charge about on it all day

I just have to try to keep him from jumping too hard on it in case he damages the tendon-repair which is why he's to stay on the lead. HE thinks he's fine

Poor Zoomie :huggles: that naughty ice making him fall like that am sure he will make a full recovery :huggles:

Just caught up with this thread :b Sorry to hear that it was more complicated than you first thought but hopefully Zoomie will recover well (if you can keep him still long enough for the tendon to repair!) and get back to doing what he does best...zooming about!! :huggles: ;)

glad zoomie is keeping in good spirits - hopefully the tendon just needs to stretch a little and all will be well in a month. - fingers crossed.

(we live quite close to Balmoral Castle so he's expecting an invite to tea with the Queen any day now... (w00t) )

One would have expected "her" to have dropped in to see Zoomie by now. I am sure that she would have been made aware of his plight (being lead bound), and of his acts of bravery. :teehee:

I hear a knighthood a coming for our special little man :D

I do hope Zoomie's toe comes right in the end, Fiona.

Even my husband has just asked how Zoomie's foot is doing!!

We are still sending best wishes Zoomie from "Downunder".

T-Rex & I have fingers and toes crossed for you, we wish you complete tendon & toe repair during the next 4 weeks so you can avoid surgery.

Poor Zoomie! Heal soon little man.

Love the pics though (w00t)

How is Zoomie's toe now?

Well Zoomie's doing really well. He's allowed off the lead again and is running and skipping like the happy little doodle he always is!

He's not the slightest bit lame and never gives his foot a second glance but when he's standing still (a rare occurence.. he is an iggy after all) it's just noticeable that one toe sticks up a bit compared to the rest. (In my eyes he's perfect of course  )

Anyway, he goes back to the vet on the 20th for a looksee and then the vet will decide if he needs a referral to the specialist.

That's very good news. Let me know what happens when you see the specialist. My Mum's whippet has a toe like this too and I would be interested to know if they decide to do anything.

:huggles: for Zoomie

So glad Zoomie is back to zooming around!! Also pleased his toe is improving. hope it goes back where it belongs all by itself.

Sending him big hugs :huggles:

So glad he's feeling better! :huggles:   Tiny send big cuddles and licks - he is getting his bandage changed tomorrow, hopefully for a smaller version not the big Nike trainer type thig he's got on now! (For those that don't know, Tiny went out for a wee last Thursday and came back pouring with blood and had managed to wreck his foot. He had surgery on it where they have removed quite a chunk of the big pad and part of one toe). He's still my special angel and looks perfect to me though!
