Is the lurcher racing scene in danger of being ruined with unmarked greyhounds racing as lurchers? With so much prestigious events being run and organised with a lot of prize money on offer could this be the ruin of lurcher racing. As the prizes and prize money have increased over the past few years there have been more dogs racing who's breeding has been questioned that i can ever remember. Just recently i heard of another dog who is reportedly bred from a coursing greyhound to a track greyhound qualifying for the Master McGrath challenge. Almost every year now a number of dogs are coming onto the scene who's breeding is being questioned. Is this the green eyed monster or are the claims that there are unmarked greyhounds racing against lurchers at the lurcher shows true? What is everyones views on this?

good question darren my opp is anyone doing tat and if it could be proved should never be allowed race again plus i do think as i see how hard to keep greyhounds free of injury if someone is trying to run a greyhound at these races they would n be able to run on the hard ground they would be broke up...there is lots of ways at looking at this to be honest....i also see people who cant get a dog to win and if there is a dog turning up winning the hold time well they r sore loosers and just try to sturr a load of shit saying this and tat and the other instead of trying to go and get a dog tat will beat it...i ave two qualifed for the challange i honestly think it is a very good idea wit good prize money speaking for my self my dogs are done as well as any greyhound alot of hard work and money goes in so yes it is nice to tryyyyyyy win a few pound to replace wat goes in hope this makes some bit of sence im sure u will ave loads of opp on this...

In the past there would have been the odd dog every couple of years who's breeding was questioned, sometimes years went by without it coming up, but now there seems to be so many dogs who are rumoured to be greyhounds. I can understand anyone involved in lurcher racing wanting to compete for great prizes and prize money but if it means that greyhounds are being used to compete for the prizes against lurchers surely it isn't good for the sport.

Do the organisers of any lurcher event have the right to refuse any dog to enter if they suspect a dogs breeding?

Now I'm glad it was u who brot this 1 up me owl mate. Cuz if it had been me. Me throat wud b cut by now, and me back would hav some serios stitching needed, lol. But I do know of a whole litter that hav been bred. Who are 100% greyhound. They will be a year old pretty soon. The reason I know this. Is because 1 of my own greyhound dogs. Bred from Mineola Farlo x Dislocater. (The bitch who smashed my knee to bits). Is the sire. The dam is also o full greyhound.. The sire was used without my knowledge. After Kirsty refused 2 giv the owner the service of Dannyboy, over the bitch. The sire of these pups was no longer with us, when this mating took place. So that keeps us out of the picture I hope. As they are nothing whatsoever to do with us. At least we can b kept off the cheater's list now lol.

I recon I hav to hold my hands up here, and admit that I did run him twice, as a lurcher. But not to win. Cuz he had a gammy leg. That was broke in 4 places as apup. He was always lame on it, and even my under 23 inch dogs we're beating him by quite a distance. I only ran him, to giv him a run, and he came last, and cudnt run for a few weeks after. Due to the gammy leg. So yes. I cheated a cupl of times, in the 4 years we had him. By running him twice in a lurcher race. So I suppose I shud b on that list after al. But at least I've cum clean here, and been honest about it. How many more, will follow in my footsteps? Can feel the knife's going in me back already hahahaha.l

in england and scotland lurchers have allways been a pastorial x sight ,but on the country fair circuit in england ,grews are being run as lurchers most people know what their running ,they could doublie up on their attendances if they run a long dog class <sight x sighthound,> ,also do what they did at the 1000gns last year which is an open event ,run two dog heats ,because on a 32 dog stake they run 5 times if they go all the way to the final in roughly an hour ,nothing to a properly conditioned lurcher ,a greyhound and a long dog made the final and the long dog won ,it was bloody hot and they were knacked after it ,i myself think if you run 2 dog heats they level the playing field and give you better sport ,in simo courseing ,my lurcher has beaten grews loads of times ,but in the sim courseing you got the pure whippet to contend with ,but lurchers usually win ,it takes the biscuit when a person registers a bitch as a nonped their fore declareing the parentage to all,and then showing it as a lurcher ,some people dont get it do they  :luck: :luck: :luck:

i run quite a few racing events at shows, i always run 2 dogs only, through a competition to a final, mostly only 16 dogs , but there has been a few more recently, giving the winner 4 runs in under 45mins over 120>>>>>>>>>>>180 yards depending on the free amount of ground at showground, most dogs are racy looking greyhound types , but there are lots of others that do give them a hard race , being run to a final , it's going to be the fittest , not necceserally the fastest dog that'll win-------i would say in all honesty , most pure greys could'nt run 4 >>> 5 times in under an hour----just my opinion though ,

Shane, you are right they don't deserve to race but to name and shame them would only cause more trouble than its worth, especially if it cannot be proved. Practically all the dogs that are rumoured to be greyhounds are greyhound like in appearance, height and shape. Maybe they should open the lurcher racing up to allow greyhounds to run or put in another height category. I don't know the solution but its no coincidence that as the prizes and prize money have increased so also has the number of dogs who breeding has come into question.

its not just full greyhounds that ruin a good lurcher race its the people who have dogs that have been bred back to greyhound so many times they are basicly a greyhound ... a lurcher to me should have at least a 1/4 whats not running dog ....

would the people who have qualified for the master mcgrath put up there dogs breeding ??? bet most of them are greyhound saturated dogs and most will be bred from non peds back to grey back to grey ......

bet there aint one proper lurcher that as qualified for it and i bet there aint one proper working dog that as either ...
