Hello, I've got a male french bulldog pup who is now 15 weeks old, I noticed his chest stuck out a bit a few weeks back and took him to the vets for a check up who said he has pigeon chest! I have to take him back when he is 6 months old for another check up but just wanted some advice, has anyone else got a frenchie with pigeon chest and if so what is the outcome? Will he be able to lead a normal life.. im so worried about the unknown, thanks in advance for any helpful replies

Most pigeon chested dogs live normal lives but some may have some exercise problems. It also could affect his breathing. If you don’t mind can you take a picture of his chest?
speak to your vet for any worries/concerns you have regarding your Frenchie!

I have a friend with a pigeon chested pug who just turned one. He's Harri's favourite playmate and they'll charge round and wrestle for an hour or more until we call time out and they get chews to calm things down. Despite being a pug and having the pigeon chest he doesn't seem to have any health issues.

Some dogs don't have any problems but some do

When he stays sleeping on his back it looks like this, the vet said to take him back im when he's 6 months old so they can check him again.. he's full of energy so I'm hoping it won't cause any real problems

his chest is quite puffed out, but this is normal for a pigeon chested dog. Just keep the vets updated on any minor changes! *he is lovely*

It seems to be quite a common thing in French Bulldogs (not that that makes it a good thing). Have you told the breeder, what did he say?

From what i have read, he might grow into it or, as i understand it, may have a tendency to chest infections. Your vet will be able to advise you.

I have recently bought a French bulldog he will be 12 weeks Saturday,
He also has prominent chest bone have you had any update or wether it is less prominent when they start filling out ?
Hello my boy is 5 1/2 months old now and due to go back to the vets in a few weeks time for a check up. His chest is still the same and is quite prominent but he’s fine in himself and full of energy, I will update again when the vet visit has been done. Have you been to the vets about your pup?

Yes, I asked the vet to check him over when he had is last vaccinations,
They didn’t seem to worried to be honest and just told me to keep an eye on him, I’ve also sent some pics away to a friend who is a vetenary nurse she’ll get back to me with her vets second opinion.

Hi, do you have an update on how your dog is please? I have just purchased a Frenchie and identified the same problem, breeder said I can return him but I would rather keep him if he is likely to grow problem free, it’s just the worry if the unknown x

Hi,

I have a puppy who has a the same problem. What was the outcome from yours?

Hello,
I too have a little frenchie girl who has a pigeon chest. She just over a year and seems to be doing just fine. No significant problems she snores a little and the vets have said she may need her nostrils enlarging ... a kind of nose job if breathing becomes strained. However that is a common thing amongst frenchies not just due to pigeon chest. She seems to be just great and we love her so much.

The vet also informed me humans can get pigeon chests and its just keeping that closer eye to make saw the organs are all in a good position over time but in general they will lead a normal life :)
