Whilst walking to work in the early hours this morning, I passed a lady who I see regularly at this time of day walking her young GSD. This was the first time however that our paths crossed where there’s a line of cars parked on the pavement. She held back and let me through, all the time talking to her dog and telling him how good he was. It was only as I got closer that I noticed the bag in her hand....OMG I couldn’t believe my eyes....she was carrying a large clear bag and it was full of mini sausage rolls, there must have been about fifty in there! As this was four o’clock in the morning I can’t see any reason why she would be carrying them apart from for dog treats. I’m not surprised he was being such a good boy I’ll be on the look out in future when I see them to see what she’s got.....and to see how much weight the dog puts on!

Oh my.. I did once meet a lady with a yorkie who looked like a barrel.. She told me how much she loved him that they did everything together and how they enjoyed a cup of tea and a cake together every afternoon!

I'm all for high-value treats but just think about the fat content in sausage rolls! I'd use them as ultra-high-value treats, but broken up into smaller bits - and I'd only need a couple per walk as no dog can be that good!

I'm not happy with the size of a lot of commercial treats either - many are bigger than I'd give Jasper as a treat/reward except in special circumstances, and he's a large dog with a high metabolism.

It would be bad enough if they were just sausages, but wrapped in pastry! She should swap them for a bag of green beans, my dogs love them.

my Akita as a pup surprised me with a passion for carrots - turns out lots of Akitas love 'em, who knew? :shrug:

She also liked to peel big horsey broccoli stems, i got to be very familiar with Chinese & other Asian restaurrants, they threw out ginormous broc-stems from heads sized like cabbage, & i'd ask the cook to collect some for me.
Moon would lie down & peel them delicately with her incisors as if she was stripping off tree bark, then gnaw the sweet naked stem.

My daughter loves the inside of a broccoli stem.. When she was little I couldn't leave Jake's water bowl down as she would drink from it and when I told him to 'sit' she would too! I drive her mad now she's older using dog commands with her!hehe.. She also cut her teeth chewing on the metal clasp of the dog lead
