This morning's walk was lovely!
The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and it was actually quite warm considering it's October!
Here are a few pictures of Roxy saying hello to some cows and horses, I feel like she prefers to greet them than other dogs! Probably because we see more of the former, being in a quiet village.
Being a horse lover I always HAVE to stop to say hello if we pass any, and..ahem..I have to sniff them, that horsey smell! So I think Rox has just gotten used to them, especially since she always gets treats when she greets them nicely (which is always!)...

..and a couple of extras....since there's hardly any open space to let her off lead, why not let her off on a quiet back road?...

Jasper used to want to sniff their bums, and even playbowed to a cow and tried to get it to chase him when he was much younger (we hadn't spotted it or he wouldn't have had the chance). All the cattle round here are very docile but he has a healthy respect for them now and isn't at all happy if we get an inquisitive one trying to get close.

@excuseme yaay, I'm not a freak! Haha, ooh yes, puppy smell too!

I think it's just because of how they all used to be docked, it still looks weird if I see a Rottie or Boxer with a long tail since I don't see them very often so when I do it's like wow! I grew up with both breeds and JRTs actually so was so used to seeing them with docked tails! I know it's been years now since the change but still!

I personally don't like Boxers or Rotties with long tails. I would never buy a Cocker Spaniel no matter how well bred it may be if it had a long tail!!
I think that I had best STOP here!

We have 6 cockers, I bought my first cocker at the age of 17, there is nothing wrong with them they just look very strange and not very practical with long tails.

Our lot take no notice of livestock at all. They do enjoy eating other animal poo's though, soft sheep poo, rabbit poo, our donkey poo when soft, and sometimes pheasant or chicken poo too. They never roll in fox or badger poo.

I'm against docking, except for when it's for the benefit of the dog, e.g. if it's a working dog. However it's just a personal opinion, and you are just as much entitled to yours, @excuseme - it's equally valid. I know one thing, and that's that you are not a cruel person who chops bits off dogs for the fun of it

I think it will take many of us a long time to get used to seeing previously docked tails now becoming long. It does change the look of some dogs quiet a lot!

I have never liked the very short tails that many dogs had, (especially some of the show type spaniels) I do think that if a tail is to be docked, that there should be enough length for the dog to cover its "private" parts. These days docked tails do seem to be longer than in the past, there is usually a good length for body language to be noticed, and they still wag extremely fast.
Personally I don't like cropped ears either. I am sure someone will have good reason for doing this too.

@excuseme oh sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were saying you would never buy any Cocker. Now I've seen that you just mean ones with long tails.
I love Cocker Spaniels and I like their long tails!

We were followed by a herd of cattle last weekend We were a little off the beaten track but in an area where the cattle could freely wander into more 'official' footpaths so I assumed they were just inquisitive. Neither OH nor Jasper were at all happy, but I acted all noncholant and cool (My grandad was a farmer and in later years his cattle were pretty much pets, so if anything I tend to be overconfident with them.) I was thinking if they got closer I'd have to let Jasper off lead, turn to the lead cow and say 'BOO!!' and hope that it would skedaddle, but thankfully they decided either we were boring or no threat... so I didn't have to let on that I was a teensy bit worried!

We had the same recently @JudyN - the cows had wondered on to the path and I said to Oliver, you and Dennis carry on walking and I will walk behind just in case but they are young so I don’t think there will be a problem.... Then I noticed one cow picking up the pace and every time I stopped she stopped.... I could see her building up to something... so I shouted firmly ‘Don’t even think about it!’ and she stopped and turned around PHEW (as I walked extremely quickly away)

Cows can be scary when they run up to you! Horses fine, but a charging cow no thank you!
