So, summer’s almost here and with the heat, the hound’s sweltering.

I’ve seen other longhair Lurchers who’ve had a close-crop and they look good and seem cooler somehow.
But I’ve also read (somewhere, not sure where) that cutting into the lower, Merino coat isn’t a good idea because it might not recover - any thoughts on that, please, dear Forum?

Once you cut the top coat, it changes and can't offer insulation. But you can use a comb called Furminator that takes out the undercoat without harming the topcoat. You have to manage the dog in front of you, which we can't see, so this may or may not be suitable for yours. I've never clipped any of my lurchers, but I do keep them out of the summer heat.
